I'm glad I listened to reviews and bought the NW-55. Based on my research, no other walkman includes all the features I want, and the NW-A55 is mostly a joy to use. It is a wonderful thing to be able to connect to music no matter where I am. - I like how small the device is. It feels nice to hold in the case. The power, volume, play/pause, and screen lock buttons are totally responsive. - The proprietary charging port is annoying, but I can find fairly cheap extra chargers online for now. I hope that Sony continues to make devices with these ports so that chargers will be easier to find. - The microSD card slot allows me to store an incredible amount of music that loads fairly quickly on device startup. Battery life is pretty good. Sound quality is great for my insensitive ears. - The UI has a dark theme that's easy on my eyes. Everything is easy to read, and I like that the titles scroll all the way through. - The main UI is overall easy to navigate (since I got the hang of what the symbols mean, as some of them are untraditional). While the organization of the settings is a bit confusing, I can use the device by itself to sort by album artist rather than track artist; customize what options appear on the home screen; completely eject the device and microSD card from my computer; adjust brightness and the number of hours before the device shuts down completely; create playlists; and manage many adjustments to the audio itself that, truth be told, I don't fully understand myself. - The Now Playing screen is minimalist, and I can see more detailed song information - all of the metadata I'm pretty sure - on another screen if I want to. It would be nice to be able to modify what info is displayed on the Now Playing screen. - I love seeing artwork displayed in library sections (with the exception of individual track lists, but that's great for scroll buffering reasons). The most frustrating feature of the device is managing album art; I can't use standalone JPGs in each album, so the device embeds art in every single track when syncing. This takes up so much extra storage space. Also, I installed a mod so the device would display non-progressive JPGs (why did Sony design the NW-A55 to only display baseline JPGs?) but this works inconsistently, so sometimes I have to manually add art to individual song metadata on my computer. - Swiping left on the Now Playing screen is so useful - the bookmark feature is great! - I have to use a different setting to connect to a car than to a phone with the Bluetooth feature, but once connected the device works perfectly and even sends metadata to display in the car. - Sound quality is good. When I unplug from the aux port, audio pauses. I can hold the scroll bar to move quickly through tons of artists alphabetically. It's the little things. I'm satisfied with the NW-A55 and look forward to continuing to use it for a long time. For any non-Apple listener who wants to experience music separated from the internet or another device... stick with this Sony walkman.Read full review

This is an excellent small DAP even in 2024. The sound with the MrWalkman firmware and direct sound mode is better than all of my ESS (not surprising) and AKM DACs. There's more detail and a slightly warm overall profile with solid mids and good treble extension. Battery life is excellent and Bluetooth support is decent if you're into that sort of thing. I bought this primarily for wired IEMs and it has more than enough power to drive the IEMs I have. USB DAC mode works very well and deliversthe same sound profile as local files. The build quality feels and looks very nice but from images online, I can tell that the paint will come off the edges and the screen can scratch fairly easily if handled roughly. My unit was bought new and immediately received a case and screen protector to help maintain new appearance. Overall I highly recommend the NW-A55 if you are looking for a small and inexpensive DAP was excellent sound quality and battery life. Read full review

This is a remarkable device. What purpose does it have in the current year? Well, at least one is that it fulfills the niche of a Bluetooth mp3 player that isn't a smart phone. If you don't know why anyone wouldn't want a smart phone, well, I'm not going to explain it to you. I had Walkman mp3 players before, but none with expandable memory. This is everything I ever wanted from Sony. It has many features, but at the end of the day, it's a music player. The sound quality is great, there are surprisingly many cases on the market, and it has both a touch screen and solid buttons. I hope this lasts me many, many years.

Product came in time, no scraches or other visible faults, just like on pictures. The only negative thing I can think of is that you can't have the clock visible all the time.
