A beloved speaker lineup that continues to impress

Our customers have loved the value and performance of ELAC's Debut Series speakers. One of the company's latest additions to the lineup, the Debut Reference DBR62, offers an improved enclosure and crossover for even better sound than its predecessors.

As one might expect from an Andrew Jones-designed loudspeaker, the DBR-62 produces crystal-clear sound with excellent bass. Each speaker combines a 6-1/2" aramid fiber woofer with a 1" cloth dome tweeter — a pairing that lets your favorite albums, playlists, and movie soundtracks shine.

An improved cabinet, inside and out

One prominent improvement over previous Debut bookshelf models is the stoutness of the enclosure. Jones outfitted the DBR-62 with a stronger, stiffer cabinet and reinforced peripheral bracing to reduce unwanted resonance.

Each DBR62 sports a handsome oak or walnut vinyl finish, and comes with a removable magnetic grille.

Features

Two-Way Driver Design: The Elac Debut Reference series DBR62 bookshelf loudspeaker features a two-way driver design with a 1" tweeter, one 6.5" woofer, and a 2,200Hz crossover. Both the tweeter and woofer have been custom designed by Andrew Jones to deliver an exceptional audio experience that can't be delivered with typical off-the-shelf parts.

  • 1" Cloth Dome Tweeter with Waveguide: The 1" cloth dome tweeter can handle high frequencies up to 35,000 Hz for excellent reproduction of high resolution audio. The tweeter features a newly developed waveguide combined with a more open grill design that enhances upper high frequency response. The tweeter's wide-roll surround improves its power handling capabilities.
  • 6.5" Aramid Fiber Cone Woofer: The 6.5" woven aramid fiber cone woofer provides a winning combination of strength and damping, ideal properties for superior performance and resonance control. A woven fiber spider allows for good linearity along with well-behaved stability at high excursion; while butyl rubber is chosen for its inherent damping and flexibility, plus its resistance to UV and moisture guarantee long term durability. Its cast chassis provides improved stiffness for both strengthening the front baffle and minimizing chassis resonances. Oversized ceramic magnets produce high motor strength for powerful bass reproduction, while the top and bottom plates are constructed from low carbon steel for high magnetic conductivity to maximize flux density.

Bass Reflex Cabinet: The Elac Debut Reference DBR62 employs a bass reflex cabinet with a new dual-flared front-firing slot vent that allows for lower noise and higher bass output for improved bass dynamics. The cabinet is made of MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) to strengthen and stiffen the cabinet. A new full perimeter brace that joins the top and the side panels significantly lessens cabinet vibrations, reducing cabinet coloration. An acoustically transparent magnetic cloth grille is also included.

5-Way Gold-Plated Binding Posts: The Elac Debut Reference Series DBR62 bookshelf loudspeaker is outfitted with a set of 5-way, gold-plated binding-post terminals which will accept bare-wire (up to 10AWG), pin-connectors, spade-lugs, and banana plugs (single or dual). The gold-plated binding posts provide excellent audio signal transfer and resist corrosion.

Mounting & Placement Options: The Elac Debut Reference Series bookshelf loudspeaker can simply be placed on a flat surface; like a table-top, stand, or shelf. The bookshelf speaker does not include a bracket, key-hole slot, or threaded insert for wall-mounting. The Elac DBR62 bookshelf loudspeaker can be used in a 2ch stereo application, or used as your front speakers and/or rear surround speakers in a multichannel home theater application.

  • 2Ch Stereo or Front Speaker Placement: For the best results with realistic stereo imaging and lifelike sound, place the speakers so that an equilateral triangle is created between the speakers your main listening position. You can also angle ("toe-in") the speakers toward the listening position to gain a more focused central image.
  • Rear Surround Placement: In a 5.1channel surround setup, avoid placing the speakers forward of your listening position. The speakers should be spread apart wider than the front speakers. In addition, try to elevate the speakers to the same height or slightly higher as the front speakers for the most enveloping soundfield. You may also need to angle ("toe-in") the speakers toward the main listening area for better surround imaging.
Note: In either application, the speakers should be placed 1' to 2' away from boundaries such as wall and corners. Close proximity to a side or rear wall will enhance bass performance, but being too close (particularly in a corner) may result in bass that is unnatural. If a corner location is unavoidable, try to position the speaker so that the distance to the rear wall is not equal to the distance to the side wall.

Elac Debut Reference Series: Building on the iconic status of Elac's Debut Series, the new Debut Reference line-up brings significant acoustical and visual advancements. Designed to blend with traditional or contemporary styles, the Debut Reference sounds as great as it looks. The Debut Reference Series consists of a floorstanding loudspeaker (DFR52), bookshelf loudspeaker (DBR62), and center-channel loudspeaker (DCR52) - all sold separately.

Optional Powered Subwoofer: Add an Elac powered subwoofer (SUB310 or SUB312 - sold separately) to the Debut Reference Series loudspeakers for bigger, deeper, and more dynamic bass response when watching movies and listening to music.

Q
Would these Elac Speakers work well with my Denon AVR-1613 Receiver? I think the receiver outputs up to 120w. thanks
david  Mar 29, 2024
1 answer
A
Hey David, great question. So this Denon should have no issues pushing a pair of ELACs like that due to its high current amp design. Normally these are a bit tougher to push but you have yourself a solid Denon receiver.

Q
How would these sound with a vintage pioneer sa9500 amp? 85 watts/channel
michael  May 12, 2023
1 answer
A
The Elac's, in my non-expert opinion, need more power to bring out the mids. I think your Pioneer has plenty of power to drive them but you'll have to listen at higher volumes. The

Q
Will my Dynaco ST70 amp power the Elac bookshelf speakers?
michael  Mar 26, 2023
1 answer
A
This would be a situation where I would urge you to try it and see, Michael. The Dynaco ST70 does appear to be 4-ohm stable, and from what I can see most models put out around 35-watts of tube power per channel. Tube power can go a long way, and I feel while this is on the low side of what the ELAC's need it most likely will sound fantastic. After all, the Dynaco is the most popular tube amp of all time I do believe!

Q
Would a niles SI2100 have enough power to make these sing?
nathan  May 01, 2022
2 answers
A
Indeed it would. A quality product such as Niles that is also very efficient should be a delight to listen to. They do require a little more power to drive than lets say a pair of Klipsch, but they are an easy to listen to pair of speakers. They fill the room nicely and are not fussy about placement.
paul  May 02, 2022
A
Probably, yes. It depends upon the size of your room and how loud you like to listen. I have 150/300 watts in a 24' x 32' x17' h room and they do well. Do not expect these speakers to provide more than 102 dB at 3' though. That's about where they (and most other 6") speakers start to compress.
james  May 01, 2022
Q
Would the Elac DBR62s sing with a Niles SI-2100 amp? The specs of that amp are 100 watts per channel into 8 ohms. I don't fully understand the power rating of matching speakers and amps. Thank you

Look for the CNET article featuring Andrew Jones "How to stop worrying about speaker impedance" The Audiophiliac and ELAC's speaker designer Andrew Jones set out to demystify speaker impedance.

Yes. They will work fine.
steven  May 01, 2022
A
Your amp is more than capable of safely running 6 ohm speakers. I have never heard a Niles amp but I am using an Ncore 502 and it sounds great. I don't mind an amp that has more power than recommended, but I'm not trying to have my neighbors enjoy my music. If you want it really loud then wrong speakers. If you are wondering if an amp at 100 Watts @ 8ohms is enough, YES.

Q
How would these sound with a Pioneer SX 424?
lance  Apr 24, 2022
2 answers
A
I'd be concerned that the Pioneer would be underpowered. The Elacs are not very sensitive and have a demand for high current in the upper bass area and 12 watts is not a lot of power. My amp is 150 watts into 8 ohms and 225 watts into 4 ohms. I probably don't need this much, but I think 50-60 watts per channel (or more) would be a much better match. Elac says up to 120 watts, and they probably know best.
curtis  Apr 25, 2022
A
Probably very good since its a vintage amp. I was using a 35 year old Harman-Kardon integrated up until last year when the HK started having input switch selector issue and loosing right channel sound. Now hooked up to a Rotel separates but the soundstage i had before is not so great until level is at 50%. You need to trail it but I'm quite sure it will pair very well. Got a suggestion, read up on the ELAC review of this speakers on Audio Science Review; Amir gave it very high recomendation.

How would these sound with a Carver HR 772?
joe  Dec 30, 2021

A
I'm only using these pair with a vintage HK integrated and it sounds so sweet, great bass and soundstage. I don't have AA Carver so you'll have to try it yourself.

Hi Joe, I tried these speakers with several audio setups which included amplification by Classe, Wyred 4 Sound and IRD MB-100's. I found the speakers to be a little on the "bright-in-your-face" side. I finally achieved the "easy to listen to sound" with the Warfedale Diamond 225's. You'll probably have to listen to several bookshelf/stand speakers to find what's best for you and your listening room. Good luck, Doug

This speakers is a good choise to connecting a Cambridge CXA81 amplifier?

I think a Cambridge CXA81 would be an excellent match for the DBR62's from ELAC. Give the ELAC's a try and do allow for a generous break-in period, as these speakers really benefit with play time.. Enjoy, Doug

Q
Would these Elac DRB62 speakers work with my vintage Harman Kardon 930 receiver (rated at 48wpc, 8O )?
wolfie  Jun 17, 2021
2 answers
A
The Elac`s are 6 OHM speakers and I am not sure if your HK 930 Receiver would be adequate. The HK 930 is a pretty robust unit overall back in the early 70`s, but the caps may need to be replaced. I have my Elac`s paired with a Musical Fidelity m5si rated at 150wpc and the Elac`s sound pretty darn good. I would suggest at least 80 wpc depending how large your room is. The higher quality amp that you can afford, the better.

I bought the Perlesmith 26 in universal stand from Amazon and it's worked out well. And I have to say, I'd rate this speaker higher now that it's been used a few hundred hours. You will enjoy yours I'm sure!

eugene  Sep 15, 2020

Eugene, I would say that the Outlaw RR2150 would be an excellent match for the DBR62's. These speakers really perform with a strong amplifier (watts plus headroom) which pretty much describes the Outlaw. Enjoy, DE

Q
How do these pair with a Marantz 2270?
raymond  Aug 02, 2020
2 answers
A
Hey Ray, I would think that a Marantz 2270 receiver would voice nicely with this Elac DBR62. What the Elac requires is a high current amp which the 2270 happens to be, anything less and the speakers do not sound their best. The 2270 has one mellow amp section (easy to listen to) and I wish I had not sold mine some years back. If your Marantz has any trouble with these speakers it would probably be due to the age of the capacitors in the receiver and that's an easy and relatively inexpensive fix. Good luck with your choice. Doug

I have no idea. I'm running a rotel 972 preamp with an adcom gfa 5300. (80w/ channel) I think you need a decent amount of power to drive the speakers well. 50-100w per channel should be fine

Hello, These speakers are a good match with NAD C700?
jay_kim  Feb 20, 2022

A
I run these with a Cambridge Audio AXR100 that is 100 watts into 8 ohms and it drives the speakers fine. The review on Audio Science review points out these speakers want power and dip into the 5 ohm range.
blayne  Feb 20, 2022
A
Hi, I would say this depends on the size of the room you intend to use them in. These speakers are wonderful but require a good deal of power to make them sing. I am using them in a 16x20 room with a Benchmark amp rated at 100 watts per channel. Deafening volume can be achieved with this setup but is rarely used due to wife approval factor :)

NAD700 with Elac DBR62s? I have the DBR62s driven by an Emotiva A300, 150 wpc, and they are in a large room with 2 subwoofers. I really like the combination for my preference of symphonic, jazz, and solo vocal and instrumental music. The Elacs are easy to drive, but they do need power. The NAD's 80 wpc should be fine unless you expect to host a rave. Like most small speakers, the DBR62s roll off low bass at about 60 Hz. There's a lot of music between 30 and 60 Hz, so subwoofer(s) are a good idea. The DBR62s have an excellent dispersion pattern, allowing you a wide choice of listening and speaker positions. Their flat frequency response, for me, has never made them annoying in any way. Just don't expect them to provide more than about 106 dB SPL at 36". They are small speakers... Bottom line: I expect you'll enjoy the combination - IF NAD has been honest about the power output of the 700. I wouldn't want to combine the DBRs with anything less than about 75 wpc RMS. JDDS
