Rugged and powerful

The P500-12P comes equipped with a 12" woofer that's a perfect match for the built-in 500-watt amplifier. The ported enclosure adds extra punch, and the rugged industrial vinyl coating protects it wherever you choose to install it. You can use the low-pass crossover, bass boost, and phase switch to adjust the sub to work best in your vehicle. High- and low-level inputs allow you to connect it to any system, while the included remote knob lets you adjust bass intensity from the driver's seat. Best of all, you can pop out the "quick disconnect" power and signal connectors to remove the enclosure for some extra room when you need it.

Features

Overview: The Rockford Fosgate Punch P500-12P is an all-in-one bass solution featuring a 12" woofer in an enclosure made from 5/8" MDF and a built-in 500 watt RMS amplifier. It's slim form is designed to easily fit behind seats in pickup trucks, while taking up as little usable space as possible.

Integrated Amplifier: Rockford's proprietary 12" woofer is powered by a built-in Class-D amplifier rated at 500 watts RMS. The closed-loop designed ensures optimum performance of the woofer, amplifier, and enclosure system.

Quick Disconnect Power/Ground: The power, ground, and remote turn-on wires attach to a quick disconnect terminal block, so the subwoofer can be easily removed when you need more storage space. Each terminal is a set screw, with the power and ground accepting up to 4 gauge wire (minimum 8 gauge recommended) and the remote turn-on will accept up to 8 gauge wire.

Audio Inputs: The amplifier section will accept either a line level (RCA) or speaker level signal. The included 12" input harness has a Molex plug on one end and female stereo RCA jacks on the other. When using a speaker level input, the RCA jacks get cut off and spliced into the factory wires.

Input Switch: The Input Switch is set based on the incoming signal type:

  • Low-Level: Used when connecting and RCA level signal into the amp. Range is from 150mV to 6V.
  • High-Level: Used when connecting the subwoofer using a speaker-level input signal. Range is from 300mV to 12V.

Auto Turn-On: The Auto Turn-On switch offers three options:

  • REM: the amp turns on when +12 volts DC is applied to the remote terminal
  • DC Offset: the amp turns on when a 6 volt surge is detected on the signal inputs (from a speaker level source)
  • Audio: the amp turns on when an incoming audio signal is detected (can be used with line level or speaker level inputs)

Gain Control: The rotary gain control allows you to match the output level of your headunit to the input level of the powered subwoofer.

Crossover: The 12 db/oct low-pass crossover is always engaged; the crossover point is adjustable from 50 to 200 Hz.

Bass Boost: Use the rotary dial to adjust the bass boost; continuously variable from 0 to +12 dB, centered at 45 Hz.

Phase: A switch allows you to reverse the phase of the subwoofer (0°, 180°).

Protection Circuit: The P500-12P is equipped with thermal overload, over voltage, and short circuit protection. The amplifier will shut down if any of these situations is encountered.

Punch Level Control: A wired Punch Level Control is included so you can adjust the output level from the driver's seat. The remote has a bracket to mount it under the dash. The included 16-1/2' cable, with a 3.5mm stereo mini-plug on each end, connects the remote to the subwoofer. Note: The Punch Level Control measures approximately 2-3/8" wide x 1" high x 2" deep (3-1/2" deep including the knob and cable).

Dimensions: The dimensions listed in Features and Specs include the subwoofer's grille, and the power and signal wiring harnesses, which add approximately 0.75" and 1.0" respectively. The depth of just the enclosure is 10.75" at the base and 7.0" inches at the top. The width without wiring is 25.0".

Q
is this a 2ohm or 4 ohm speaker?
shannon  Feb 21, 2024
1 answer
A
The impedance of the 12" subwoofer used in the Rockford Fosgate P500-12P is not disclosed in the specifications, Shannon. We do not advise modifying any components in the P500-12P powered subwoofer. Are you having an issue with your speaker and need a replacement?
bo  Feb 21, 2024 (Staff)
Q
Can the Rockford 500 connect through my rear deck speakers in my accord and not through the head unit?
chase  Jan 03, 2024
1 answer
A
It's possible to tap into the factory speaker wire anywhere along its length in order to get speaker-level signal for input into the P500-12P. You may tap into the wires near the rear speakers as opposed to near the factory radio.
zachary  Jan 03, 2024 (Staff)
Q
Can the p500 connect to my rear deck speakers in my Honda Accord? Or does this sub require me to connect to the head unit?
chase  Jan 03, 2024
1 answer
A
The Rockford Fosgate P500-12P has a speaker-level input feature and can be connected anywhere a strong signal can be accessed, Chase. In vehicles like your Honda Accord where rear deck speaker wiring is easily accessible, tapping-in for signal there can be a great idea that can shorten your install time. If you don't want to cut your wiring, you can use the Posi-Tap tools in the link below! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_669PP502/Posi-Products-Car-Speaker-Connectors.html

Witch way should I point the 12 inch su. Box? To the back or to the front.

A
This wedge shaped box is designed to face towards the back of the vehicle.

Q
I have p500 12inch works fine but it doesn't receive signal when connected with rca?
jason  Dec 13, 2023
1 answer
A
That is interesting Jason, as the input harness is the same for both low-level RCA and hi-level speaker signal. The Rockford subwoofer comes with RCA's attached to the input harness that need to be physically cut off to use the speaker-level inputs. I would make sure you have a solid line-level signal, and also make sure that if you cut off the RCA plugs they are re-connected correctly. You would also need to choose to correct source with the lo/hi input selection switch. I hope this helps!
bo  Dec 13, 2023 (Staff)
Q
I have a p300-10 installed now looking to upgrade does the p500-12p have the same wiring harness?
sgtkup  May 16, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Robert, and thank you for your question. The Molex signal input plug is the same, both need 8 gauge power and ground, but the removable power plug is a bit different. Worse case you reconnect the new power plug to your existing power, ground, and remote wires.
hogan  May 17, 2023 (Staff)
Q
If I were to install this subwoofer do I need to connect this to the head unit?
taylertran123  May 07, 2023
1 answer
A
It would be necessary to connect to your head unit in order get signal to send the subwoofer. Our advisors can review the necessary connections for your vehicle prior to purchase via online chat or phone at 1-800-324-9695.

Q
What type of wiring kit would a 2012 ford fusion need for the p500-12p?
brett  Apr 26, 2023
1 answer
A
Thank you for your question, Brett. This powered subwoofer calls for an 8-gauge amp wiring kit.

Q
Does Rockford have a 15 inch powered subwoofer enclosure?
eric  Apr 24, 2023
1 answer
A
This Rockford Fosgate P500-12P is the largest powered subwoofer we carry from Rockford Fosgate, Eric. You could custom tailor your setup starting with the SPL boxes SB115V in the first link below. Drop in the Rockford Fosgate P3D4-15 in the second link, and add the R2-500X1 mono amp in the third link below. This would create a custom 15" Rockford setup for you, and would hit harder than the 12" powered sub option! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_419SB115V/SPL-Boxes-SB115V.html https://www.crutchfield.com/p_575P3D415/Rockford-Fosgate-P3D4-15.html https://www.crutchfield.com/p_575R2500X1/Rockford-Fosgate-R2-500X1.html

Q
Can I power my 4 door speakers with the amp inside the sub?
ivy  Jan 28, 2023
1 answer
A
You cannot, J.D. The Rockford's amp can only power the subwoofer that is built in. You have a couple of options here and one is you can use your radio to power your four door speakers. You can also add something like the Alpine power pack in the link below. It is small enough to fit practically anywhere, and it would provide plenty of clean power for four speakers! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_500KTP445U/Alpine-KTP-445U-Power-Pack.html

Q
Can I use my 4 gauge amp kit on the subwoofer with any problems?
connor  Sep 06, 2022
1 answer
A
Greetings Connor, and thank you for your question. Rockford Fosgate recommends 8 gauge, but their terminal will accept up to a 4 gauge power and ground wire. I see no issues as long as you use the rated 30 amp fuse in your inline fuse holder by the battery.
hogan  Sep 06, 2022 (Staff)
Q
If I already have the p300-12 installed, will this one be able to just plug right in to my existing wiring?
nicolas  May 30, 2022
1 answer
A
Both units appear to take the same style input harness, and the same gauge power wire. It is important to note that you will need to change the fuses, as the p300-12 uses a 20 amp total fuse, while the p500 uses a 30 amp total fuse!

Q
Has anyone ever used the 500 in a jeep wrangler?
mark  Dec 04, 2021
2 answers
A
I just installed the 500 in my JL and I'm extremely satisfied with the bass output. It's not going to rattle your doors off, but provides clean, loud, punchy bass even with the top down.
scott  Apr 20, 2022
A
No but I've been in a Jeep that had the 300W model in it. That one seemed a bit weak with the top off and I expect this one would not. --Paul

Q
I have a 2014 Mustang convertible and this box won't fit upright. How would the sound/output be changed if I laid it on it's back with cone facing up, and slid it as close to the rear seat as possible?
justin  Nov 21, 2020
1 answer
A
As with any speaker, the sound/output of the speaker itself won't change based on directional orientation, but the sound will change based on the location and orientation in your car, based on the physical aspects and the acoustics of your car. Thusly, it's going to sound different in every car regardless, with placement and orientation being factors. I have mine laying cone up in the back seat of my Silverado, and it sounds fine, but my truck's interior isn't the same as Mustang's. So, bottom line, as every vehicle is different, you're just going to have to try it and see.

Q
i have a sedan (2018 elantra sel) and was wondering if the bass hits hard enough to feel? given the fact that it will have to pass through my back seats to reach me
michael  Sep 20, 2020
4 answers
A
FYI, Anyone with a massive truck will tell you it's a space saver - that's not true. Look at the specs and see if it fits properly in your car.
p.  Sep 20, 2020
A
Yes it does! It hits hard and if you put it in back of the car you'll feel it at the front. I had it installed in the back seat of my truck which wasn't ideal but I still felt it.
p.  Sep 20, 2020
A
The sub sounds great, but it doesn't offer the kind of vibration that's going to rattle the car next to you. It's more of a space saver. I bought it to use in my Silverado, as I dont have room for a big box, and was very easy to install with everything self contained. And, while it sounds great inside the truck, I can barely hear it outside of the truck.
kenneth  Sep 20, 2020
A
It's not earth shacking but it is definitely a boost. An after market radio would make it more justice i just have it hooked to factory radio and its not the best
humberto  Sep 20, 2020
Q
Installing with stock sound system. Do I need a line out converter and crossover for this?
derrick  Apr 27, 2020
3 answers
A
No you do not it is ser up for hi input as well as low input you just cut rca wires and wire accordingly to speaker from the car
humberto  May 06, 2020
A
Has high level inputs but you could use a LOC if you wanted to
corey  May 06, 2020
A
No, it can take high level input and crossover internally.

Q
Will this fit in a 2019 chevy camaro ss coupe?
jarrett  Jan 30, 2020

I would measure the trunk opening then go by the dimensions of the box although i think the sealed box has better bass I have both and like the sealed one better in the trunk
humberto  Jan 30, 2020

Yes most likely, you will have to check how tall the enclosure is and how larger you trunk is before buying.

Hi Kyle, thank you for your question. You should be able to purchase additional input plugs for the P500-12P through Rockford Fosgate. You can reach out to their customer support team at 800-669-9899. Hope this helps!

Crutchfield is an authorized online retailer, check to see if you can purchase an additional plug

Q
Is there a noticeable difference between the 500 and the 300 watt models?
jake  Jun 26, 2019
8 answers
A
Night and day! Keep in mind that this is in a Ford e350 van....the 300w got lost at highway speeds while the 500w has plenty of power and headroom at all speeds. I was very pleased with the upgrade. If you are in a small car the 300 would likely be great, but the 500 will allow headroom if you want it to hit hard.
alan  Jun 26, 2019
A
Yes... stick with the 300 sealed unit.. it is way better than the ported version. I have owned both, the sealed version played more notes, the ported version only hit a couple notes well and the rest was awful. Also I blew the ported version in less than 2 weeks. The sealed was much better all around and even louder on many notes. The ported version was decent, but if I had to choose between the two, I would without a doubt go with the sealed version. The power increase that the potted version offers, does not come across as being louder.
caleb  Jun 26, 2019
A
Yes the 500 really hits hard. Rockford fosgate rocks
michael  Jun 26, 2019
A
One is ported, and one is not. I have both, and the differences are those you'd expect between ported and non-ported.
kenneth  Jun 26, 2019
A
Yes, the 500 watt model does a lot better with low end bass than the 300 watt did plus the 500 watt box is ported and the 300 watt is a sealed box. I currently have the 500 watt model and I think it is perfect. It sounds great and it really easy to disconnect if you need more space in trunk or back of truck.
matthew  Jun 26, 2019
A
Yes / it depends on the car size. I got the 500 watt for my Ridgeline and it is too big although the sound is earth shaking. Pro outweighs the con and get a professional to install it and save you hours of work.
p.  Jun 26, 2019
A
Yes because the amp size and the p500 being a ported box and the p300 being a sealed box.
sheldon  Jun 26, 2019
A
When listening to the subwoofer at moderate volumes there is not too significant of a difference; however, when listening at higher volumes the 500 watt will blow the 300 watt away.
gabriel  Jun 26, 2019

For a single ported 12 the bass output is extremely impressive! As good if not better than a twin Rockford 12 setup I had in a sealed box back in 98, I'm very pleased with its performance!
neil  Apr 09, 2019
Q
Single or dual voice coil?
anthony  Mar 30, 2019
3 answers
A
The performance of this enclosure is better in mid and high bass, because of how high the port is tuned to and the fact that it is a slim enclosure
andrew  Jan 30, 2020
A
Its a proprietary sub is all the info I got from Rockford. I sent this one back and got the p3 12 enclosure and a separate amp. Wasn't pleased with the performance of this one. The new setup pounds hard.
michael  Mar 30, 2019
A
It has a built in amplifier and is all wired up. Shouldn't matter.
