Ready to mount

These slim speakers come with wall-mount brackets in the box, so you have everything you need to mount them to your wall. (And here's a tip: if you'll be placing these speakers on a shelf, turn 'em upside down so that the down-firing port has room to breathe — they'll sound better that way).

Custom-built for excellent sound

Fans of ELAC know that renowned speaker designer Andrew Jones has been at the helm of the Debut series since the beginning. Jones himself designs the magnets, woofers, crossovers, and enclosures for each Debut speaker, which allows for high-quality components without the added cost of outsourcing parts and supplies.

Product Research

Features

Two-Way Driver Design: The Elac Debut 2.0 series DOW42 on-wall loudspeaker features a two-way driver design with a 1" tweeter, one 4" woofer, and a 2,500Hz crossover. Both the tweeter and woofer have been custom designed by Andrew Jones to deliver an exceptional audio experience that can't be delivered with typical off-the-shelf parts

  • Cloth Dome Tweeter w/ Wave Guide: The 1" silk soft-dome tweeter features a wide-roll surround that improves power handling and a waveguide that improves directivity control by eliminating cabinet diffraction inherent in traditional box enclosures. The 1" silk soft-dome tweeter candle handle high frequencies up to 35,000 Hz.
  • Woven-Aramid Fiber Woofer: The on-wall speaker features a single 4" woven aramid-fiber cone woofer with rubber surround, oversized magnet, and vented pole piece. The revised shape of the aramid cone offers even greater stiffness and damping; far superior to polypropylene or paper. The added strength allows more flexibility in design to achieve a smoother, extended low-frequency response.
  • Custom Crossover: A custom seven-element crossover (2,500Hz) with audio-grade components is implemented to ensure smooth transition between the tweeter and woofer.

Bass Reflex MDF Cabinet: The Elac Debut 2.0 series DOW42 on-wall loudspeaker uses a bass reflex cabinet with two top-firing flared ports for greater efficiency and bigger bass response. The cabinet is made of MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) to strengthen and stiffen the cabinet, helping minimize unwanted vibrations that can discolor music or movie content. The MDF outer walls of the cabinet are covered with a black ash wood-grain vinyl finish. A detachable cloth grille is included.

5-Way Binding Posts: The Elac Debut 2.0 series DOW42 on-wall loudspeaker is fitted with a set of 5-way binding-post terminals which will accept bare-wire (up to 10AWG), pin-connectors, spade-lugs, and banana plugs (single or dual).

Placement & Mounting Options: The Elac OW4.2 on-wall speakers are designed as either on-wall surround speakers, on-wall front channels speakers, or on-wall side channel speakers. Mounting brackets are included to hang the Elac OW 4.2 speakers on your wall (screws for mounting the brackets to the wall are not included). You can also choose to place the DOW42 speakers on a flat surface, like a stand or shelf.

Elac Debut 2.0 Series: The Elac Debut 2.0 series family of loudspeakers consists of two floorstanding loudspeakers (DF52/DF62), two bookshelf loudspeakers (DB52/DB62), two center-channel loudspeakers (DC52/DC62), a Dolby Atmos enabled loudspeaker (DA42), and two powered subs (S10EQ/S12EQ).

Q
How many inches deep is the mount?

A
The mount allows the speaker to be flush against the wall.

We are flat mounting these on the wall behind the couch on which we watch the TV. Could you please elaborate your question?

Q
Is the grille paintable?

A
No, it is not.
trevor  Sep 07, 2021
A
No, I don't think you should....
gerald  Sep 07, 2021
A
The front grille covering is a cloth-like mesh, presumably to let the sound move through unimpeded. I suspect if you painted that covering, you'd have a negative impact on the sound, as most paints I can think of would block or divert the sound. I guess you could try dyeing the material, but the material on mine is black, so you might be limited to darker dyes. I can't say if the material would even hold a dye.
roy  Sep 06, 2021
A
The grill is made of fabric so it is not paintable.
kevin  Sep 06, 2021
A
The grill of an Elac Debut 2.0 OW4.2 speaker is made of plastic with a cloth like material glued to it. So painting the grill probably won't work very well as it will just peel off rather quickly.
michael  Sep 06, 2021
A
I elected not to use the grilles. I would expect that while the grilles are paintable, it would be hard to imagine any kind of paint that would not compromise the porosity of the fiber to allow for the transfer of sound. Rather than paint, it might be possible to use some kind of fabric dye if you can determine what sort of fabric the grill cover is made of to know which type of dye it would be receptive to. But then again, there could be some risk of losing porosity.
alfred  Sep 06, 2021
A
No - fabric covered.
brian  Sep 06, 2021
A
Unless you can find acoustically transparent paint, I wouldn't suggest it.

Q
I need to mount my stereo speakers on the wall due to space restrictions. It says that these speakers are great for a home surround system. Are they equally as good for a simple turntable hookup with an NAD C316BEE V2 integrated amplifier?
paul  May 01, 2021

A
I can't speak to your specific amp, but as long as you have them on the wall and some room below for the downfiring lows, I say yes.
mario  May 20, 2021
A
I have two systems that use the speakers. Both are wall mounted. On the main system, they are surround speakers while in my bedroom setup, they are the main. They sound great and produce decent bass. I do use a subwoofer in both systems. It is best to wall mount them as the ports are on the bottom. You can set them upside down on a shelf, but then you must keep kids and pets from dropping things into the ports.
douglas  May 20, 2021
A
I am using them as rear speakers in my 7.2 system. For my use, they are excellent.
carlos j  May 20, 2021
Q
Can these be used as ceiling speakers? I have a 5.1 system utilizing the rest of the Debut 2.0 products. I'm in a rental, so id prefer not to use in ceiling speakers.
chris  Dec 19, 2020

A
I use them for height speakers mounted on the wall just below the ceiling and they work great and come with mounting hardware.

Q
can the sound output be angles/directed? my speaker placement is too high due to space constraints and I want to angle the direction of the sound down and to the side.
mc  Nov 26, 2020

A
The Elac Debut 2.0 OW 4.2 can be directed, but only if it is installed on a tripod setup. That method gains side to side rotation, front to back tilt, and height adjustments. I employed this method with success using four OW 4.2's for my Dolby Atmos four channel speaker setup. As long as you have the room for the tripods then any placement can be changed until you have the sound to your liking and set to the room acoustics. Happy Home Theatering!
michael  Nov 26, 2020
A
But without building a slim wedge to mount to the wall and the speaker. These are flush mounted.
mario  Nov 26, 2020
Q
can the OW4.2 be used as surround speakers but on the back wall vs on the side walls ? ie drivers firing out parallel vs directed toward MLP.
coy  Jan 24, 2019

A
They definitely can be mounted to the back wall as long as the back wall without causing any issues as long as the wall is a few feet behind the seating area My Bio: https://www.crutchfield.com/bio/Paul

Q
Can i use the elac debut 2.0 ow4.2 on a stand an still get quality sound?
quwone  Jan 08, 2019

A
The speaker port is on the bottom so as long as you don't cover the bottom port you should be fine.
cory  Jan 08, 2019
A
You probably could use a stand, but remember that the speakers has two port holes underneath I have mines mounted on the wall.
kervick  Jan 08, 2019
A
No. The OW4.2 has downfiring ports that would be blocked if you mount them on a stand.
jessica  Jan 08, 2019
Q
I purchased the OW4.2 On-Wall speakers. The instruction manual stated that no mounting hardware is provided. However there were molly bolts and two different types of screws included without any instructions as to which screws are for the speakers and which are for the molly bolts. Can anyone provide any insight? Thanks.

A
My version came with brackets and screws to mount a bracket to the speaker AND mount a bracket to the wall. There were even metal drywall anchors. The one thing missing was instructions on which screws (there were two different types) went into the speaker (to hold the bracket) and which went into the drywall anchors.
douglas  Sep 16, 2019
A
It appears that brackets (and screws) are included to hang the ELAC Debut 2.0 OW4.2 speakers on your wall; however screws for mounting the brackets to your wall are not provided. Q
If these are meant to be flush against the wall, how do you connect the speaker cables?
derek  Sep 10, 2018

A
I also use tape speaker wires to make cable running to the speakers easier.
douglas  May 20, 2021
A
The speaker wire terminals are recessed into the speaker so that you can make the connections without the wall getting in the way My Bio: https://www.crutchfield.com/bio/Paul
