I bought this because my original Trekker ST, purchased in 2011, is so wonderful! I've noticed that Kelty is making fewer and fewer external frame packs; in fact the Trekker is the only full size backpack they are still selling. Awesome Pack

This is exactly what I need for my solo desert treks. 18 pounds of gear, 24 pounds of water. There is zero amounts of water where I roam ,.. this pack lugs it all with no problems.

Q When looking from the back, is the top right pocket zipper or open? The Trekker 65 I own has a pocket that you can slide a bottle in; no zipper.

This model does feature an open water bottle pocket on the top right of the pack. That water bottle pocket does have a small zippered pocket integrated to the side.
