What Makes Wood Pellet Grills So Great?
1. Flavor: The reason professional barbecue chefs use wood is that it provides the best flavor. Pellet grills use all-natural hardwood as fuel, delivering unmatched pure, hardwood taste. Try it and taste the difference.
2. Ease of Use: Pellet grills have controls that allow you to simply set and forget. One button start-up eliminates lighter fluid.
3. Versatility: Unlike gas or charcoal grills, pellet grills have an adjustable, wide temperature range, allowing for 8-in-1 versatility. That means you can smoke a rack of ribs low and slow, or grill a wood-fired pizza hot and fast, and even bake a berry cobbler, all with the same grill.
4. Efficiency: Pellet cooking typically costs less than a comparably sized gas grill.
5. Value: Pellet smokers might cost more than the grills you find at a big box store, but a pellet grill is a smoker, oven, and grill in one!

A couple of quality control issues I'll mention incase Z-Grills reads this. The instructions have typos and are poorly written in places. It seems some of the steps are logically out of order. A leg was slightly dented which caused the holes to misalign with the barrel making it really tough to insert the bolts. The main power coupling INSIDE the control box was not connected. So when first plugging in and turning on there was no power to the unit. It required opening up the main control box to reconnect. From that point on its been great!
Assembly went smooth with a few minutes of having to reread some of the instructions. After assembly there is the start up you must do before you cook for the first time. Well plugged in the grill went to turn on the controller and nothing happened. Tried other electrical outlets with the same outcome. Had to call their help line. They were very nice and was going to send me another controller unit. After some thought I finally opened up the inside to where all the electrical connections were and found that the main power supply to the controller was not connected. It is a push pin connector.
With the help of my wife and her smaller hands got it together. Presto like magic it works. So that is the reason for the four stars.

I will say you have to go into this with a couple expectations. First, this does smoke, but I would think of it more as a semi-smoky wood fired oven. It's not a continuous smoke roll; it lets out a puff (which varies with pellet type) about once a minute, but otherwise the smoke is nearly imperceivable. For mine, I don't even see the "thin blue smoke" most of the time (again, wood dependent). If you're hoping for this thing to look like a big rig going up a hill, stick to a more traditional smoker. That being said, it definitely still puts down a nice smoke ring and a good smoke flavor. Second, there are those that will claim this thing will sear a steak. It won't, in my opinion. You have to put it on high for an hour before it get's north of 450F, and with no hot spots, there's not really a good place to actually sear anything. It will make some grill marks, but it's not really a hot sear. I stick to my gas grill or fire up a charcoal kettle if I want to cook with a good sear.
So I did have a couple of assembly/receipt issues, but given the price I didn't see them as anything worth nothing. This is almost half the price ($600 shipped at the time) of a name brand unit (which is also made overseas). My barrel was slightly dented when it arrived, but I tapped it out with a ball peen hammer. Also, the little cap on the chimney is pretty flimsy; it bends if you put the cover over it, so I remove it every time I cover the grill.
I won't call these complaints as much as areas that could be improved in a future model. I didn't think I needed a shelf, but it would definitely come in handy. Also, cleaning out the fire pot isn't awful (remove the grate, plate, and heat dissipater and vacuum it up), but if it has some sort of easy-clean access port or something that would be significantly better.
Buyer beware.
Go with another brand of higher quality...
