We have had the backpack for a few months now for my 4 yr old boy. He has loved it and carries it everywhere. It is the perfect size for him and has held up very well! Even with how rough he is with it, there have been no tears or problems. The straps have a good amount of cushion around his shoulders and the back is cushioned against his back.
All around great product.

We don't use the leash looking strap so I can't say anything for or against it.
