RUB OIL YOUR GRATE BEFORE OR AFTER EACH USE

  • HOT TIP: If this is your first time using your grill grates, make sure to burn off any coating used to protect the charcoal grill during shipping as well as any additional residue from its production prior to oiling. Simply start your grill and allow it to burn for one hour.
  • Coat all surfaces of your grates with a high heat cooking oil, such canola or peanut coil. You can do this with a spray oil or a paper towel coated, but not saturated in oil.

I have a Performance series Char broil grill. The plates on mine have rusted out pretty bad and I really wanted to get one or 2 more seasons out of it. These were about the cheapest option I could find and they just plain old work. Yes I lost that infrared effect that originally sold me on the grill, but in all honesty I never noticed any difference between the regular grill and an infrared. I still had hot spots and I was still able to burn food real well. These grates will have hotspots, so be aware, but that's the nature of a more open style. I think they actually cook a little better as the grease burns off quicker and I get a much better sear with these. They are cast iron so I just give them a light spray with cooking spray once they are cooled off and so far no issues. The spacing is a bit wider, so be careful with thin food items.

The only downside I find is the ability to sear compared to the originals. However I just let the grill heat up for 5 to 10 minutes and these grates perform flawlessly.

These worked as described and have lengthened the life expectancy of my old Charbroil grill. My guess is they may not be as durable as super expensive grates, based on weight and feel of surface, but I have used and cleaned them many times, and they fit and work perfect.
