The story is decent, but the insipid corniness that seems to plague most anime’s is here. Some love it, I personally dislike it most of the time.The entire story has a Red Dawn type feel with young teens going to war to defend themselves from an “evil empire”. Is that empire that evil though? Well it’s stated not supported with many examples. Still most of the corny elements of the story are easy to ignore and get into the core of VC — the gameplay. It’s here that SEGA delivers a winner.The gameplay is as good as VC1 and really makes the game worth the purchase. Fantastic graphics come in a close second. VC fans will not be disappointed with this entry and I would recommend Xbox One X edition for the smooth 4K graphics and great controller sticker of Ragnarok.

I watched a friend of mine play the original VC and noticed how unique the turn-based combat was. Even though I ended up picking up VC4 (it's the only version available for my Xbox One X), it's much the same game with a few additional mechanics.

I can’t recommend this game enough. Now don't get me wrong, the story doesn't do much for me and I'm a story guy but the gameplay, upgrades, leveling system, etc., are just excellently done. I hope they eventually offer VC remastered on Xbox in the future. If not, I may just play it on my PS4 Pro at some point.

valkyria chronicles 4 is a great game well worth playing it leaves you wanting more even after playing all the extra missions the only problem I had was the story left a question mark in my mind about 2 characters I am not gonna spoil it for those who haven't played it yet

Not a bad game. The fact you have to watch lots of "episodes" of the story (skippable after loading) to move to the next battle and dialogue boxes (especially in the HQ) that pop-up constantly get really annoying, but the actual combat is a pretty fun mix between turn based and RTS. But there is one huge issue: there is no autosave. I put about 10-12 hours of it over the course of the weekend then returned to it after playing another game and using apps so the game was no longer suspended in the Xbox background. At the main menu "load game" was grayed out and then I realized that the game does not autosave and I didn't see an autosave option to enable. You must manually save after every match. Like I said, it's not a bad game, but not fun enough to redo all the work and time I already put in.

The gameplay is decent, has a bit (a bit) of an xcom feel. The graphics are good. Sometimes the game cheats you with nasty hit chance rolls but that’s the nature of this type of game.

The big problem is the sheer volume of cutscenes and dialogue between new missions. You can spend 15+ minutes listening to dialogue between missions. If you only have an hour or so to play you will start hammering skip buttons just so you can get some actual playtime in.
