But WOW, the sound has been restored and enhanced, dollars have been saved, and I didn't throw away these great 15 year old, OEM JBL speakers used by Toyota with something from a different era.
Separating the three foams pieces wasn't intuitive, so I first used a blade on the paper covering the adhesive to free each of the three sections. Then flipped it over and simply pushed-down the foam pieces in a clock-ward motion until each section was freed.
I had to improvise with the center foam ring as doors metal opening was much too large for it to fit. I also found a large window support tube was mounted against the door frame blocking 1/3 of the speaker foam mounting area. I just trimmed it off. Reduced the thickness and stuck it right on the support tube - it seems to work.
Oh yea, the extra two foam rings, I placed underneath the window lift control switch to reduce the sound levels since I noticed that it had a huge space that could resonate and allow road noise in.
The sound coming from the stock 15 year old door speakers sounds better than my 2019 Fusion. So much so, I just order a set for the back two doors!!!!
Thanks for this product!
My vehicle's door trim panel has a lip for sealing the speaker to the back side. That lip is designed to seal the factory speaker to the door. That same lip also tore one of my new speakers because the lip punched through the rubber speaker surround. The speaker surround does appear to be larger than the factory 6x9.
The lip on the back of the door panel had to be trimmed off. Angle cutters would work, but I just made quick work of it with a Dremel. To seal the speaker to the door panel, I used this Stinger kit.
There's a polyurethane version on Amazon which I also ordered but between the two, this was the best solution. The foam pressed in tightly when I put the door panel back on and maintained the same shape- the polyurethane one did not.
There's three pieces to this kit. I only used the foam for sealing the door panel. Didn't really need the rest. I had already used a sound deadening material on the inside of the door.
