Preferred method for sealing doors to door panel
I ran into a number of issues on my install, one of them being that the 6X9 aftermarket speaker had slightly different dimensions than the original one.My vehicle's door trim panel has a lip for sealing the speaker to the back side. That lip is designed to seal the factory speaker to the door. That same lip also tore one of my new speakers because the lip punched through the rubber speaker surround. The speaker surround does appear to be larger than the factory 6x9.The lip on the back of the door panel had to be trimmed off. Angle cutters would work, but I just made quick work of it with a Dremel. To seal the speaker to the door panel, I used this Stinger kit. There's a polyurethane version on Amazon which I also ordered but between the two, this was the best solution. The foam pressed in tightly when I put the door panel back on and maintained the same shape- the polyurethane one did not. There's three pieces to this kit. I only used the foam for sealing the door panel. Didn't really need the rest. I had already used a sound deadening material on the inside of the door.

I applied this kit to the two front door speakers of my 2004 RX330 and the results were awesome! After repairing the 15 year old OEM speaker surround foams, I applied Road Kill, not sure if this simple product would improved the sound.

But WOW, the sound has been restored and enhanced, dollars have been saved, and I didn't throw away these great 15 year old, OEM JBL speakers used by Toyota with something from a different era.

Separating the three foams pieces wasn't intuitive, so I first used a blade on the paper covering the adhesive to free each of the three sections. Then flipped it over and simply pushed-down the foam pieces in a clock-ward motion until each section was freed.

I had to improvise with the center foam ring as doors metal opening was much too large for it to fit. I also found a large window support tube was mounted against the door frame blocking 1/3 of the speaker foam mounting area. I just trimmed it off. Reduced the thickness and stuck it right on the support tube - it seems to work.

Oh yea, the extra two foam rings, I placed underneath the window lift control switch to reduce the sound levels since I noticed that it had a huge space that could resonate and allow road noise in.

The sound coming from the stock 15 year old door speakers sounds better than my 2019 Fusion. So much so, I just order a set for the back two doors!!!!

    Thanks for this product!

Speakers need baffles to create a good seal and prevent the sound from being lost inside the door. Installation was super easy and made all the difference. The back punch gets canceled out and all the sound is funneled into the vehicle, creating a spectacular improvement in sound quality and recuce the rattle when bass hits hard. People now think I have a sub in my car.

How you use these varies by vehicle a lot. I had to customize mine. That said, they did improve sound. Was it worth over $20 in foam? Not sure. Adhesive isn't the best, especially on the thin ovals.
Reviewed in the United States on April 29, 2023
Added these to my fully dampened doors for an even greater increase in sound quality and found maybe a 10% increase in sound quality. Granted many factors go into what works with one set up to another. Quality of product is ok at best. The paper backing is not perforated all the way around and if you do not have a brand new blade, good luck with separating the 3 rings with out ripping the backing. The inner door piece is nice and thick and can be trimmed or shaved to fit your application. The middle ring, found useless. The outer most ring can be cut down to size with scissors. Fit of the outer ring needs some fiddling with and not sure how long they will stick with the backing glue. Time will tell. I'd say these are worth maybe $15 and worth the work that goes into installation, questionable. A fully dampened door panel inner and outer is your best bet. More work, more expensive but more benefits in the end.

So I have used these on a couple of installs. They work great really bring out the mid bass. Kinda a pain to cut to size but that is the only complaint I have. However the increase in sound quality is worth the hassle.

I heard of this product on line and how it really helps sound enhancement. I took a chance and to my surprise this product really help my speakers produce better mid bass and it also helped channel the sound into my cab space. i have installed them on all four doors. If you desire better sound from your speakers then this is for you.
