One controller's analog control stick stopped working correctly after less than an hour of play. It lost its deadzone and is super jittery and always registers a slight 'up' input. The other one has remained solid so far after 3 hours of play. I'm not sure how to contact the manufacturer to replace the defective controller at the moment. I may just have to get a refund, but I do like the second controller. The buttons feel cheap, but they are solid and work well, the controller feels great in the hand and is an excellent, affordable nostalgia trip back to my childhood playing N64. If only both controllers worked correctly. Hopefully, the one breaking is just a fluke. Given that one busted, I am concerned about the longevity, unfortunately, seems like you can't buy high-end copies of one of the worst (if innovative) controller designs every put out there.
Bumping my review up to 3 stars due to the outstanding customer service I received. They contacted me after I posted a 1 star review with the complaints below. They were very apologetic and went above and beyond to correct the issue.
They immediately sent out a replacement for the controller with the defective trigger button and, reading that I was not pleased with the lack of a select button, they sent me two other controllers
2 Pack iNNEXT SNES Retro USB Super Nintendo Controller Gamepad Joystick, USB PC Super Classic Controller Joypad Gamestick for Windows PC MAC Linux Raspberry Pi 3 Sega Genesis Higan
free of charge. The underside trigger on the replacement was a lot better. Plenty of give with a solid click to let you know it was working.
I was not expecting any kind of reply from my review and it was refreshing for this seller to reach out and do good by their customer.
On top of all that, I didn't have to deal with the hassle of shipping the defective controller back to them.
And new controllers they sent feel great for the Retropie. You know what? Gonna bump it to 4 stars. These guys are awesome.
ORIGINAL REVIEW
They're very light. Maybe a few steps up from the kind of plastic that better products come packaged in. These came delivered wrapped in bubble wrap and stuffed into plastic bags.
Buttons feel rickety and don't have that nice push-back you find on higher quality controllers. The one underside trigger button on one of the controllers works, but has no click to it making it hard to know if you're even pressing it.
I purchased for use on a Retropie setup. They connected fine and worked adequately but the lack of a dedicated 'select' button was an immediate pain.
I chose them because I wasn't sure the Retropie setup would live up to the hype and didn't want to invest in a more expensive option in case it didn't meet expectations.
The Retropie is awesome though, so I will be replacing these controllers with better option soon.
I spent some time playing n64 games with both these and my brawler64 controller with a usb adapter. I didn't feel any noticable difference in the sensitivity of the joysticks, and there were no problems like the ones I had with the original pair. The buttons on the brawler64 controller are definitely a bit better and more like professional console buttons (the ones on the innext ones feel a bit harder), but the D pad on the Brawler64 controller has a good deal more resistance, which can be a pain if you're looking to play any games that require double-tapping the d pad to do things. For games like that, I found the D pad on the Innext to be far more comfortable.
The Brawler64 controller still beats it out in terms of sheer quality. It's built in a more comfortable and modern controller style, has all three shoulder buttons available on one grip (which means you have more buttons to map if you're using it for non-n64 games), has better face buttons, has a more modernized control stick design, has a turbo button, and has a working accessory slot. But given that the brawler64 controller was 3 to 4 times more expensive after factoring in the adapter I had to buy to plug it into my computer, and considering that I got two for the deal here, I have to conclude that this is a pretty great deal if you aren't really big on the bells and whistles. Thumbs up.
