At least when hooked up to the computer to register and download updates for the first time it shows up as a START 50. When being looked at in your own personal My Drive supplied by TomTom it shows up as a 50. I am going to return this and buy from TomTom direct.

The 3D map display is greatly improved. It is easier to follow while driving, especially since zooming out provides a broader area. Syncing the device with the Route Planner on MyDrive Connect is amazing. Working online is easier and syncing keeps your device instantly updated. Scrolling on the device using touch screen is activated, no need to arrow down one line at a time. Too many device enhancements to list including displays, on screen information, operating system functionality, and simplified menu access. GPS coordinate display for map location has been deleted, but using MyDrive Connect to display any favorite shows the GPS coordinates in the address line of your web browser. Search is combined with Drive to on the device menu, but that is not indicated in the Drive To icon description. Both issues will likely be addressed in future device software updates. For now, the information I just mentioned easily resolves both of the only issues I found with this device. This is truly a must have product. It goes without saying that outstanding product support for 5 years is unheard of and is provided. Lifetime maps and lifetime traffic included in the purchase price. You can't do better than this product.

Really easy to update the maps. Easy to use interface. The guidance it provides while driving is quite good and when you get close to an exit it gives you a 3D image of what the exit will look like. Also, the screen is quite sharp and the brightness settings quite good. Another thing I like about it is that it is not heavy and as a result does not need a bulky suction cup. I have owned many GPS units over the past two decades, and given that it comes with free life-time maps, I would say it is the very best I have ever owned. Highly recommended!

This is a good GPS but you may have some difficulty operating this one. It’s my 2nd TomTom. The first one was great, older and much more simple to operate. I don’t know about you but the best GPS I use is to get me to my destination and nothing more, quickly and the best route. Sometimes the human equation factors in here. This thing can’t think logically like we do and can throw you off a little when it tries to get me to grandmas, my route is better and faster, it may take in traffic factors, I just don’t know! Bottom line, this one is OK, but nothing like my old one that was stolen, don’t you just love our justice system. Where’s Brandon!! The touch screen is hard to finger touch too. I do like it, just not so many bells and whistles. People that designed these things try to cram everything known to man about geography. Sell me something to get me to point A From B, that’s all. The older version of TomTom was great. It would b like comparing an older TV to a newer wall mounted TV that you talk to. Where’s George Jetson!!

I've been a loyal fan of TomTom products for near on 20 years and have never been disappointed. Last month however, I learned that my XL IQ of 9 years with "lifetime" maps was no longer supported and thereby could no longer get the "lifetime" maps - begs the question how is lifetime defined.
Nonetheless, I figured I'd gotten almost a decade out of the device and would find another similar to it and stick with TomTom, a brand I have trusted. I bought the VIA 1525SE as it seemed to have all of the same qualities (size, functionality, "lifetime" maps, etc) and received it quickly. I charged it and then plugged it in to the computer to update the maps.
It required firstly to update a file called NAV4. This initial update took almost 10 hours to complete. The device restarted and began updating the maps through MyDrive Connect. It gave an estimated download time of 2 hours the first time. It timed out at 39% and began again. Another two hours, time out, rinse repeat.
After spending an entire weekend trying to get the maps to complete, I gave up and after another restart, I tried to operate the device. No maps installed, it says. I scoured TomTom's website for support and was repeatedly directed to their forums for support. I tried emailing through their site, but the "submit" button only refreshed the screen. I finally found a phone number, called and spoke to a scripted young lady who could do little more than re-direct me to the MyDriveConnect. Absolutely nothing in the way of support.
Finally, I at least got MyDriveConnect to not begin automatically updating and was able to get it to briefly display "MyContent" and found the message that the drive is corrupt. I tried to "Repair" but that was greyed out, as was the "Uninstall" option. And unfortunately, there's not enough file space to allow for a download.
Another call to their scripted staff who once more directed me to the forums - where Average Joe Blow could possibly give me the answer that the manufacturer could not. What kind of support is that? Genius I guess, they don't have to employ technical assist and just allow the keyboard warriors to take on the job for free, and if it fails - they've complete deniability.
I have to find another GPS company now that I can trust, it will never again be TomTom.

It was fairly easy to set up and not a lot different from my older model. It says lifetime updates for maps, (we'll see about that, my old TomTom said the same thing and that was a LIE). No more updates for it!!! The memory seems lacking and when I went online to to do updates etc., it already said it was running low on memory so I removed a lot of different voices, (I find that a bit dumb anyway to have that many voices}! The volume on this unit REALLY sucks!! Don't expect to play your radio/music and expect hear any instructions! My old unit also listed current road/highway you are currently on as well as a possible one that will be coming up. This only lists the highway/road you are currently on only! Didn't correct list house numbers so the destination was a bit off!! For instance, if a house number I need ended in a letter, it wouldn't accept a letter at the end of a number.
The screen size still isn't as large as I would have liked but I can live with that. I DON'T LIKE FACT THAT THE VOLUME IS SO WOEFULLY LACKING.., AND NO I AM NOT HARD OF HEARING!

Ordered the GPS, arrived a day ahead of schedule. Box had everything it was supposed to have and the unit had enough battery power to start right up out of the box. The first thing I did was hook it up to my TomTom account for updates, which took a number of hours. New software and map updates were installed, after which the unit was fully charged and tested for functionality. Features I love is the big screen, the right brightness and control of it as well as the amount of screen use for each function. It takes getting used to as the interaction with the GPS is different from my other older model, but that is called progress. After reading the manual and tapping away on the GPS I was quickly able to create routes, store routes and modify routes as well as search for POIs by name and category. The ability to create a route on your laptop and send it to the GPS via USB is a great feature in addition to being able to create my own POIs and mark points along the way. I am not sure who still navigates to a LAT and LONG so I do not see the usefulness of that for my purposes, but it is there for you.

The mount is basic as they are with all other GPS units and it sticks relatively well on clean glass or the mounting disk. Took a bit to figure out I could swap the mounting ball for a dash mount. The on-line downloadable manual is actually pretty good. But you have to read it first. Charging was effortless and quick. No complaints so far. 5 stars for delivery and quality, 4 for battery life and ease of use. 3 only for Touch screen because with a long route and way points the scrolling function seems to get a little stuttered. i do like the double tap to zoom, however, the long tap to access menus sometimes refuses to cooperate. In short, the touch screen could still use some improvement or the underlying processors need some upgrading.

    Overall, good unit, reasonably priced.
