Customers are mixed about the storage space of the suitcase. Some mention it's very roomy and lightweight, and large enough to pack for most any trip. Good Construction
I've only used it once so far, but like the quality. One wish, a few less inner pockets to give more room for other items. Love the color and look of this suitcase as well as the extra grip handle on the underside of the suitcase. Great for unloading/loading in a car and othe places!

I do have to make a disclaimer. I have not yet used my bag on a plane, and I cannot state whether or not the bag will get checked on a regular basis. However, I did measure my bag as I have heard of a lot of "carry-on" bags being well over typical domestic airline size regulations, and I do not want to pay extra for the "privilege" of checking my bag. This bag should comply with the size regulations set by most domestic airlines even though the top and side handles push it over the limits just a bit. The aforementioned handles compress easily and lay flat enough when compressed as to where that should not be an issue. This bag does have an expansion zipper. As a word of caution, the bag will exceed carry-on regulations when the suitcase is expanded.

I have used my bag for a few short car trips. It holds a lot more stuff than one would expect for a bag this size. The bag has a lot useful pockets for organization, and the pockets are not the type that interfere with overall packing space or force one to pack in a certain way as the pockets do not take up extra room if they are not used. The zippers are high quality. The fabric seems like it is fairly durable and potential wear points are reinforced. The telescoping handle operates smoothly. This bag also features an add a bag strap and coat keeper for convenience. I will have to update my review at a later date to rate the durability. As of right now, I am very happy.

Edit: I forgot to list what type of capacity this bag has. I managed to get the following items inside of my bag although my bag was expanded:

2 pairs of 32x33 jeans-interior lid pocket
8 pairs of large wool socks-folded between handle rails
6 pairs of underwear-Eagle Creek Tube Cube
6 extra large men's T-shirts-Eagle Creek Cube
3 large Columbia fleeces-folded and laid on other packed items
1 moderately packed Eagle Creek Wallaby

All of those items were in the main compartment. The exterior pockets got consumed by bag expansion and were not used. It was still a decent amount of heavy winter clothing. I could have taken a few shirts out and kept two of the fleeces and left the bag with the expansion zipper closed.

Have just received from Amazon, and yet to use for travel. However, this bag has a quality feel about, with a solid construction, and an impressive level of detailing. Zippers work well and wheels roll smoothy. Bag comes with packing suggestions which are useful. Good size for shorter to medium lenght trips say 1 to 3 weeks. I am a mainly a leisure travel and intend to use it in conjuction with a Covertabrief. Have used other Eagle Creek organizers for years and they last a lifetime.

12 MONTH UPDATE: After 12 months, this bag has lived up to my expectations and has proved to be hard wearing and reliable. Consistent with my first impression, the bag has a solid quality feel about it, and as I've come to expect with the Eagle Creek Brand, is built to last.

All the parts on this bag work smoothly - the wheels spin easily and the hand locks solidly into place, with quite a bit of extension for taller people like me. The grab handles feel strong, and easily lift a fully laden bag. The bag is spacious, and I use the various cubes which mean I can fit a surprising lot in.

I'm surprised to read other negative comments about the zippers given my experience with this bag. The zippers on this Tarmac are heavy duty puncture resistant which are more robust than flimsier zippers I have seen on other bags that may seem easy to zip open and close but end up breaking or bursting under load.

The zippers open and close easily, consistent with the range of other Eagle Creek gear I've had over many years, such as another Tarmac I have, and the various Eagle Creek cubes etc. I would say the zippers are the most solid I've seen, comparable to an Osprey bag I had some years ago.

Would highly recommend this bag.

This bag replaces my previous EC Switchback which made it many times around the world in 8 years before the zippers failed. So I was hesitant to buy this one after some of the reviews were critical of the zipper quality. But upon receiving it, I immediately felt relief. These are heavy duty zippers, more so than my previous bag. On top of that, this is the most thoughtfully designed carry-on that meets all of my needs. Peripheral and dongle storage on the outside, so I can easily pull them out and plug in wherever I am, without making a mess of my stuff. The lower external compartment will fit a large iPad Pro vertically in case you're wondering. The padded inner laptop sleeve will come in handy since I rarely pull out my laptop while traveling, so it stays out of the way and safe. And it's very padded. This bag feels rugged; things have come a long way in 8 years. The carry handle taking space inside the bag is something I was already used to with my previous bag. It's easy to creatively pack softer items along the bottom, like socks and underwear, to fill the gap. Overall this is a great upgrade to my previous bag which was bulkier and on several occasions unable to carry on due to international restrictions. I can rest assured now that my belongings will stay with me and not be forced to check them in.

One is always searching for the ideal wheeled suitcase. I have an Eagle Creek case which is now over twenty years old and beginning to show its age. Its wheels are beginning to lose their tread, but us still very usable. I wanted something smalle and more compact and this is it.

We have been using Eagle Creek travel gear for at least 30 years. Their gear keeps getting better, which is why I bought this carry-on bag to replace one which is at least 20 years old and still in perfect condition. New design is roomier, easier to pack, and more flexible. I see many people buy 4-wheel bags. They’re fine on smooth surfaces, terrible on rough streets, and you lose 15% packing spaces over the 22” two-wheeler. Can’t recommend this gear highly enough.
