This new CD is slightly unexpected considering May's health just last year. But expectations are totally fulfilled as the legendary lineup energize and mystify with some new players but the same BOLD Pretty Things sound. In fact, THIS sound harks back to the bands origins mores than their 70s excursions into deeper layered concepts. This is gutsy blues in every shade and speed. Shockingly simple. I hate to nay-say the Stones (I'll always be a diehard no matter where they roll)...but...why the hell can't THEY reconnect with this heartfelt gut-stuff instead of the endless Keef riffing? The sounds here are likely the final wave and rave of that initial Brit invasion. I can die happy. Oh you pretty things...thanks for that and thanks for this.

It does't get any more musically real then these guys. Their first new release in 7 years is another masterpiece. Raunchy, rocking, psychedelic, English blues at it's best. If you've never heard the Pretty Things, buy this CD, then get the box set, and you'll you'll hear what you've been missing since the mid 1960's. Still proudly carrying on the tradition of the British Invasion 50 years later, and making magnificent music!!
Now all they need to do is maybe an American tour.........

This is a superb CD. The Pretty Things are better than ever! The Same Sun was a "Coolest Song in the World" on the Sirus channel "Underground Garage" (Little Steven's channel) and I think more cuts should follow in the weeks to come.

These guys don't screw around. Their music, their attitude to music, it is personal and they make that clear in every note.

The best Pretties album in a long while and the best purchase of a new CD by a 60's artist I have purchased this year. I love it. The vibe, the performance, the sound & the songs. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED& if you are a fan, don't hesitate on this one.

Retro 60s to their Emotions/SF Sorrow era.

For those of a certain age, like me, this is, for the most part, a very listenable album. Its references are late 60's and early 70's; the arrangements are tight; and it's apparent that the songs were recorded without a lot of overdubs, giving the record a spontaneous feel, But the songwriting is bland and the clever covers of others' material do not make up for it. If drum solos are how a listener connects to flower power days, go directly to track 7, where the percussion seems unending. (The next track is a song the Hollies in their prime could have done, and that's meant as a compliment.)

The absence of Waller and Povey, particularly their vocal work, is striking and regrettable. Phil May is now a baritone, which makes him sound more subdued than he probably would like. And the new background voices are competent, but no more than that. Listening to mediocre Pretty Things is still a good way to spend a half hour, and the fact that band's the two original members are old gives hope to other codgers in the audience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Un altro ottimo album !

Album successivo all'ottimo e grintoso "Balboa Island".

4.0 out of 5 stars the Pretties 12th album
Reviewed in Australia on November 20, 2018
I always liked the music of the Pretty Things, especially their early R&B and bluesy beginnings from 1964 - 66. They had a lot of style and lineup changes over the years but they were always solid campaigners. It was great to see that they still put out new material and still sound fresh. I would love to see them do an album of new songs in the old R&B style, not that nonsense they call R&B today which is just rhythm but no blues. After all the Stones a year or so back returned to their roots and released a blues album, nice if the Pretty Things did the same.

This album as good as anything they've done before, I love it,bought cd and vinyl,I just hope they do it on dvd as well. These boys can certainly still perform at top level. Will be at Leeds on fri.to see them live. July 2016, What a fantastic night , great venue ( Brudinell Club in Leeds) 2support bands ,both decent but the Pretties really rocked the joint. Young and old alike enjoyed a band who knew what they doing and you could see they were enjoying themselves too, smiles from Phil May to Dick Taylor told it all. Phil May is one of only a few golden oldies who can still sing without slowing everything down to talking pace and Dick Taylor on lead just gets better and better with age. My mates and I were really looking forward to seeing them again there in October but it's been cancelled or it was a mistake in the first place .Don't know which, the rest of the band were superb I hasten to add and just get better also , having been together some time now even manager Mark St. John is no slouch on the drums, so if you can please come back, all the best . Jonty.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Pretties!!!
Reviewed in Germany on September 7, 2015
