We all love Canson XL Series Watercolor Paper! Trusted for decades by artists, students, hobbyists, and art teachers. Each midweight sheet is crafted with care to obtain that perfect paper texture and provide a sturdy foundation for multiple washes and layers without warping or buckling. For those of you nerdy enough to know better, our paper is 90lb/185gsm (which means the pre-cut “ream” of full-size sheets weighs 90 pounds and a single sheet of one square meter weighs 185 grams). All of this just means Canson XL watercolor paper has good absorbency and strength. So, go at it with bright colors, gradients, and detailed strokes, and even mix things up with gouache or acrylic paint for a mixed media effect. It is definitely thinner than the regular watercolor paper from them. It tends to bubble while painting, but it flattens out as it dries.I will continue to buy this in bulk because it is such a $ saver, but I would pay more for a heavier weight.

So I am a beginner watercolor painter and like to practice on something other than Arches. I also make my own hardbound watercolor sketchbooks so when I saw this I thought I would give it a try. Not usually a Canon XL fan but I thought what the heck, it is such a deal.

It arrived properly packaged so the paper we in perfect condition. It comes in a nice box that is good to store the paper in.

I know this might not be right but I swear this paper is nicer than what comes in pads, I really like it. It is even acceptable on the back side in my sketchbooks.

I bought a second box because I was afraid it wouldn't be available forever.

Ive been searching for a reasonably priced watercolor paper that I could use for my card making All I could fine was a 140lb weight, which is I did use but still to heavy for what I wanted. It was the only thing I could find locally.Think real small rural towns,I mean real rural. The closest "BIG" city is 90 mins away and its not that big) I found this and I LOVE it Now Im not an expert when it comes to water coloring but this paper holds up well to my beginners attempts. Doesn't buckle when I get it really wet its a perfect weight to use for card making The paper has a smooth side and a very slightly textured side and both grab the paint well. I intend to buy another box real soon because with my luck now that Ive found the perfect paper for me they'll quit making it!..lol

I forget how lightweight 90lb paper is, but this is much lighter than I anticipated. It's great for hand lettering and doing rather light washes. I haven't noticed much pilling and it takes color nicely. However, if you're trying to do wet-on-wet or blend multiple layers of colors it's going to warp some. Even after cutting it down to smaller sizes and taping, there was still rather significant warping. It's great practice and student paper and for an amazing price.
