*Important Compatibility Limitation for select BMW vehicles:

BMW X3 (E83) production date 09/05 and up with DSP without navigation, CD changer and iPod connection;

BMW Z4 (E85) production date 02/06 and up with DSP without navigation, CD changer and iPod connection;

BMW Z4 (E86) coupe production date 05/06 and up with DSP without navigation, CD changer and iPod connection.

These vehicles above do not require GROM DSP adapter (use analog DSP) and can be installed at stereo or trunk, but audio part will not work until the stereo is programmed (retrofitted) to accept CD Changer (bmw calls it “vehicle order”).

Please contact your local BMW dealer and ask them to retrofit the stereo to accept CD changer.

If your car falls into the above range and has Navigation, CD changer or iPod connection, GROM will work without any reprogramming.

NOTE: For BMW with SiriusXM satellite radio, the XM radio need to be disconnected in order for GROM to work.

I have an older BMW without any real iPhone integration, but has existing wires for old school in-trunk CD changer like all BMWs made in the late 90s and early 2000s, before iPhones were even invented. For years I dreaded taking that car on long drives, knowing that I only have 1 CD’s worth of music to listen to.

Well, NO MORE! Hooked up the GROM USB adapter and voila! Full iPhone integration! Now I have 60 plus gigabytes of music to listen to with full steering wheel track and volume controls. 5 hour long drives pass by quickly and the GPS Navigation from Maps tell you to turn when you need to while my favorite music blast in the background. Simple, elegant and EFFECTIVE solution.

It even charges my iPhone while I drive.

I've had Grom in my e38 for a little over a year now and it works solid. The first thing I did after ordering is followed the Grom website and upgraded the firmware. I worked with their support on two different occasions and they were great to work with and very communicative. We identified a firmware bug that they were able to fix with a later revision within a week. The other time I worked with them was to figure out a feature I couldn't get working. I don't have the bluetooth accessory just yet and mainly use it with a micro USB for all my music. Sound quality is excellent and sounds no different than playing a CD. It also has a memory function to remember the last song you were playing regardless of which "CD/folder" so switching between folders, switching to radio, or turning off your car is not an issue if you want to listen where you left off.

Unit works as a stand alone item, but i bought it to use with bluetooth dongle for handsfree calling (as advertised). Does not function. When used with bluetooth dongle, it cripples audio functions. I Can no longer use scan button to skip folders amongst hundreds of songs, because pressing scan once activates the phone (supposed to have to press it twice for phone activation). I have been in contact with Grom regarding this issue for months and have not received any help or solution. All I ever get is "we have submitted to our engineers" and "we will contact you when we have an update". They never followup at all. Last time the response I got was "my hands are tied". These people are amateurs and their product does not work as advertised. Customer support is worthless. Wasted $200 on this setup.
