I absolutely LOVE this laptop. I cannot stress to you, the reader, enough how much utility I've managed to squeeze out of this thing.
As sold, the device is perfectly usable. Startup / shutdown speeds are quick, actually I was quite impressed considering that there's a HDD in this thing, and not an SDD.
I'm considered a "Power User" by most folks. During the day, I design datacenters and maintain Linux systems and network equipment for one of the largest web-based companies in the world. By night I do contract work as a developer and graphics design, and even a bit of movie editing.
The 11S held up to just about everything I threw at it. Multiple windows open of Word documents, Visio documents and Photoshop. It WAS a little slow however during saving, or when I pushed it just a little too hard and beyond what the 4GB of RAM could do.
I took the option of upgrading it after purchase and replaced the 4GB with 8GB of RAM, and swapped the HDD for a Samsung 840 EVO 240GB device.
Since then, this thing has been a dream to use. Faster, with reduced weight.. Really, Lenovo should have offered the device in this configuration to begin with.
I also took this thing on a 2-Month sailing trip around the carribean as part of a documentary film. The Lenovo held up well in 105 degree heat, with humidity in the 90% mark, and heavy seas had the laptop hit the floor multiple times. Other devices that went along for the trip (An HP, Toshiba and iPad) did NOT survive.
I'm really pretty pleased with this thing, but cannot stress enough that the device really needs to be upgraded with the SDD. It's worth it, and it's pretty easy to do.
