TERRIBLE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS. If you have not installed this lock set before, IT MAY NOT BE AN EASY INSTALLATION because it wasn't for us.

This Schlage lock set (bolt lock and lever handle lock) is very nice looking and seems very stable. HOWEVER, the installation instructions are a series of numbered sketches that are hard to understand - next to WORTHLESS.

There are no words explaining what to do and what NOT to do. A couple sketches have cross-out lines to indicate what not to do.

It took us 40 minutes to figure out how to install the lever handle lock because the outside handle would not snap into the stem. Before the lock was in the door, the handle easily pressed into the stem and snapped in place. But once the lock was in the door, it would not snap in place. 40 minutes is a long frustrating time to suffer needlessly. As a last ditch resort, I put the key in the lock and turned it and pushed. Then it snapped in. Our suffering would have been avoided with a few words to explain this necessity.

The inside lever is just as tricky to install especially without any words explaining what you need to do. We struggled for many minutes to press the inside handle into its stem but it wouldn't go together. By accident, it seemed to press together. But we needed to disassemble it for door treatment care.

Trying to put the inside lever lock on again caused more suffering because the hit or miss was a miss this time and the inside handle would not press into place. We finally discovered (after more suffering) that the lock turn knob of the inside lever must be in the vertical position before it all fits together. This suffering would have been avoided with a few words of instruction instead of those lousy sketches.

Our 1980 house has antique brass handles and hinges. I wasn't sure if this would match. It's not exactly the same as the older version which had a lighter, brassier finish. This is much more beautiful with a darker/blacker undertone and a gorgeous rich finish. The width of the handle is AWESOME! Easy to use and grasp. I love these! Wasn't planning to replace all the ones in house, but now....LOVE!

these locks have a higher security rating than what I found at Lowes or a local locksmith shop (means they are tougher to jimmy). the antique brass finish on them is excellent, the lever handles are easy to open and you may think they look nicer than doorknobs. installation is pretty easy as long as you read the directions! I ordered 2 sets and they were the same series which means they use the same key so I did not have to have keys cut. CAUTION.....the handset lock stays locked unless you turn the lock from the horizontal position to vertical, otherwise you can open and close door on the way out and lock yourself out....this can be a big problem and kept me from assigning a 5.
