    LensCoat for the Canon 100-400IS f4.5/5.6. LensCoat telephoto lens covers offers your valuable equipment some protection from scrapes and bumps, preserving its resale value. It also help break up the shape of your lens, making it less noticeable to wildlife. The LensCoat 100-400 has small hole on the last segment lines up with the red dot indictor, making it easy to quickly line up your lens with camera mount even with the cover installed. Please note that the LensCoat Canon 100-400 IS cannot cover the fixed portion of the lens barrel due to the manner in which the lens barrel extends/retracts leaving approximately 3 inches exposed when the lens is fully extended.

    This is expensive for the pieces you get but they fit really well and are very snug so I feel it was a good purchase. There are enough pieces to cover all of the lens that you'll want to cover. I'm glad I splurged for it because I am particular about how things look, feel and fit. This makes me look like a professional wildlife photographer. If I buy any other lenses specifically for that purpose, if it's available, I will buy another LensCoat for it. It also does keep my hands warmer than touching the cold metal of the lens, too. I do wish that all of the pieces were done in such a way that I could remove the camo when out in the "real world." Two of the pieces slip on, the rest are double-stick taped onto the lens. Not that big of a deal since I believe I will use this lens primarily for animal photography so camo's okay.

    The main reason I bought this padded cover for my pricey Canon 100-400mm L series zoom lens is that I carry it with a strap slung over one shoulder with the lens and camera hanging by my side. I was concerned that, over time, while hiking in search of birds my sweaty arm contacting the lens barrel would rub through the finish. I feel the price is quite high for a few pieces of thin foam backed material, even if they are custom fitted to an individual lens. Next time I would fashion my own. The quality is fine, it's the high price that draws a low opinion .
