    AC/DC adaptor prongs in back were rusted staight out of the box when the prodyct was brand new. I wasn't expecting good sound for the price, but rust was disappointing.

    I don’t know what the hate is all about. I received my $10.00 RADIO today, plugged it in, dialed up my favorite sports talk station, and off I went. Since this is going in my study and I’ll probably only listen to this station I simply unplug it when I’m done. No humming as I read about. No fading in and out or dropping stations that was mentioned. Nothing falling off of it. Great little radio! For 10 bucks I wasn’t expecting symphonic quality music but for my needs it’s the best investment I’ve made in some time.

    I found the radio to be pretty good especially for the price and agree with the first reviewer. However, if you are looking for a radio that will switch automatically to battery power when you lose electricity this will not do the trick. You must unplug the power cord from the radio to have it work on battery power. My last radio would switch automatically. Why would I want this feature? I use it in a cabin that I am at infrequently and it helps to make the bad guys think the place is occupied. We loose line power frequently so this feature is what I was looking for.

    Bought it to complete my Emergency Kit and use it as my bathroom radio.
    I was aware that I was buying a cheap radio. So I wasn't expecting Sony, Bose or Sonos quality.
    This is what I found:
    The Good:
    - Size. No too big or small.
    - Has a handle. You can move it around without fearing you will drop it.
    - Can be powered by AC or "D" batteries.
    The Bad:
    - When connected to the AC outlet it hums to the point that drove me crazy after 30 minutes. To muffle the humming you need to set the volume at 4+. This will bother everybody around you.
    - One of the springs in the battery compartment will fall apart when you remove the batteries. This makes this radio unreliable. You don't need to become a repair man during an emergency. (This was the major deal breaker for me)
    - Cable to connect to the outlet feels flimsy.
    - The Short Wave Bands are useless.
    - The radio looks like is unfinished.
    Conclusion: If you're buying an affordable radio ($15+) that it's reliable with decent sound quality. This is not it. Do not waste your time and money.
    There are better options out there:
    - For $10 you can buy the GPX Portable Speaker With AM / FM Radio. (You will not be disappointed. I own this radio)
    - For $15 - $30 you can buy several Sony radios just type it in the Amazon search box.

    I bought this radio when it was on sale for $11, which was a great deal for a AM/FM/SW radio. As others have stated, when run on 120V AC power there is a distinct buzz which is really unacceptable. However when run on batteries it works fine. It is cheaply built, but for $11 you cant complain. It would be a great emergency radio to store somewhere with a set of batteries (store separately in case they leak!). It can certainly pick up local radio stations well. I see the price is now up to $27 - I wouldn't recommend it at that price, but at half that price it would be a good buy.

    Plastic quality feels like something from a dollar-store, but I was willing to overlook that if it functioned well. It doesn't. Plugged in, with the unit on, there is an unacceptably loud hum (crazy loud) from the power transformer inside the radio. When switching the radio on with the power dial, there is a very loud "pop" noise that comes through the speakers. Loud enough that it is jarring. FM reception is ok, but the radio seems to need frequent adjustment to stay on station (drifts). AM reception is poor and shortwave is basically nonexistent with extreme bleedthrough from the FM band.

    Do yourself a favour and don't buy this radio. Spend a bit more and get a Sony or Panasonic.
