I am hooked on Osprey Packs, this is my 2nd.

Very lite, very practical, very stylish and very comfortable. No issues with sweat on the back (even when walking downtown in the summer time). Small size and very light which is appealing (to me) yet holds a lot. One note: while it is good for holding iPad and maybe smaller laptops (maybe 13''), I doubt I'd be able to fit my 15" work laptop.

Update: I actually was able to fit my 15" Laptop, but it is a tight fit! I'd do it only if I have to but not on daily bases. It does feel different carrying the pack with the larger laptop in there but it is not uncomfortable.

Update: I did return this pack and get the Flapjill (large) and LOVE IT SO MUCH.
________________________

For a long upcoming trip, I've been looking for a backpack that (a) can hold my laptop and DSLR on a plane, (b) be comfortable enough to wear around a city all day or on day hikes, and (c) is fairly low-profile. The Flare seems great for most of these. I put my 14" thin laptop, my Nikon D3200 in an ever-ready case, a light jacket, and a pair of heeled Oxfords in here to test it; it fit everything nicely, though because the fabric is so thin there were a lot of bulges/corners/poky bits.

Still, I am still on the fence about returning it due to fit. I'm a 5'4" woman with average/narrow shoulders, and at its very very very tightest, this pack is still slightly too big for me. It hits at the small of my back and the straps are over the far edge of my collarbone, which makes it a bit uncomfortable. The chest strap actually still hits at a good place, which as you ladies will know is not always the case with packs not special-built for the female frame.

PROS: Lightweight, very well built, decent amount of storage space and good laptop protection, comfy straps, strangely awesome zippers.

CONS: Elastic loop on outside (clearly visible in pics) can snag on things, not the ideal fit for an average-to-petite woman, pack provides little/no padding on bottom and outer sides.

I am also trying out the Osprey Flapjill (large), which has the same capacity as this pack. I don't like the flowery nonsense on the design of that one, and I prefer the zippered style of the Flare to the Flapjill's top-loading, but the frame is better for my shoulders.

One thing to note on the "Juicy Orange" color: It is not pumpkiny as some other reviewers have noted. It is really, really orange. I mean, some pumpkins are also bright orange, I guess. It's somewhere between cozy autumnal orange and dayglo safety vest. I like it! But it's not subtle.

I HIGHLY recommend this product. My first Osprey pack. It will definitely not be the last :).

It's a nice light pack for travel. I bought this pack as an under the seat carry on to use on a trip to Belize this spring. It was a bit smaller than I expected but worked out well. Stuffed with items to valuable to check it easily fit under the plane seating. It was a great day pack for our excursions into the rainforest and to see the ruins. And I like the fact that it has water bottle pouches on both sides. At the beach we stuffed it with towels and sunblock. We used it everyday and it held up great. I did remove the belt before we left so not to get hooked on something on the plane. My only complaint would be that the straps seem thinner than most. But but so far they have held up well.

This is exactly what I was hoping for! I recently purchased a macbook 13" and with it's lighter weight and size, wanted to forego my usual wheeled carryon that I used for my other machine when I'm travelling. I researched, read reviews and watched YouTube videos to get a sense of the size and how I could best utilize it. It's perfect for me! I thought it might be a tad too big when I opened the box but after putting in my laptop, iPad, iPhone, cords, adapters, kindle, small backup charger, cardigan sweater, passport, keys, water bottle, coffee travel mug.... I put it on, quickly adjusted the straps for proper weight balance, & could not believe how little weight it felt like I was carrying. And there's still more room for items when I travel. I love the warm orange color - it's not a bright orange at all, in my opinion. I've always favored colored luggage because I like to be able to quickly locate my stuff in the sea of black bags everyone else travels with. My brother has always sworn by his Osprey gear and now I get to agree with him. It's quite awesome.

Overall, I really like this pack, but now that I've had it for awhile, there is one thing that kind of bugs me that I wish Osprey would have done differently. The webbing and buckles at the top of the pack that adjust the tension on the shoulder straps release far too easily meaning that I have to constantly readjust the shoulder straps so that the pack is situated in a more comfortable place on my back. Other packs I've had in the past have had buckles that held the tension adjustment in place until I purposely changed it for some reason, on this pack, just wearing it seems to cause that webbing to slip through the buckles, and not always evenly, so that the pack is sometimes looser on one side than the other and I have to take it off to readjust mid-trip. Oh, and I don't carry a lot of stuff in my pack, it's mostly empty but for wallet, keys, phone, some pens and a magazine or two so it's not an issue of too much weight in the pack.

On the positive side, I love all the pockets and compartments and it seems pretty durable so far.

Super Rucksack!!!
