I replaced all the cat 3 phone wires in my house with cat 6 cable. I ran home runs (single runs) from the network room to all the existing jacks in the house and also added a few along the way. I plan to use Magic Jack to give me my phone service to all the rooms. I plan to use 2 Magic Jacks to give me 2 lines of service so I can dedicate a second line to security and fax. I did not know how well the old cat 3 line would hold up the to VOIP (internet phone), so I wanted a better wire system so ran cat 6 everywhere. The old cat 3 had multiple splices in the attic and also splices at every jack, so I didn't want all those splices to interfere with or interrupt the internet phone service all together.
After I ran all my wires, I was looking for a way to manage all those phone lines in my house. After much research I found a line of Leviton products that I thought might be helpful. I needed something that had at least 13 outputs and this had 18. I found two different items and did not know which one to get. One was 47603-18B and the other was 47603-18M. The first one was just the board and the second one included the plastic mounting bracket. I was confused because of the price. The first one was 61.31 just for phone board and the second one was 31.89 which included the mount. At first I thought one board was different than the other, but they are exactly the same, but as far as the price the second one was on special, because in less than an hour after buying, the price went back up to the normal price of 78.68.
I got the package in today and wanted to know how the pin layout was set up. 4 pair phone cable and 4 pair network cable are pinned out differently (the wire combinations are different).

After testing the inputs and the jacks, I found that they are all continuous with each other so it does not matter where you put the input, it will transmit that signal to every port on the board. So in my situation, I could input one line from one of the Magic Jacks onto any RJ-45 jack on the board and thus activate that line in all other jacks including the demarcation input at the top. They are all physically connected. Or if you had phone service coming from the phone company, you could terminate the incoming phone service line with an RJ-45 jack and thus activate every other jack on the board. This is what I plan to do with my two Magic Jacks. I plan to activate line #1 (blue pair) with one Magic Jack, and line #2 (orange pair) with the second Magic Jack. Once the lines are activated, I can terminate all the phone lines with RJ-45 and plug them in to the remaining jacks on this board. The jacks in the room will only have either the blue or orange pair actually hooked up depending on which line I want in that room.
I also wanted to know how the RJ-45 were pinned out and really thought they would have the USOC telephone color code combination, since this is a telephone distribution module, but it turns out this is pinned out using the Data TIA/EIA 568-A color code.
So pin 1 = White Green, (2) Green, (3) White Orange, (4) Blue, (5) White Blue, (6) Orange, (7) White Brown, (8) Brown
Overall I am very happy with this product and it will do everything that I wanted it to do. The price was a pleasant surprise and would have paid the regular price if not given the option. It is a great product and actually has two additional spaces to mount additional modules. I highly recommend this item.
