Telescopes out to about 18 inches so I can get it at just the right height. I've used this tripod for over a year now and have shot hundreds of videos with it! LOVE it! I have a heavy one that's fancier (and was expensive $65) but NOT NEAR as light and easy to use. I always use this one. Buy it! You'll LOVE it!

    I needed a small tripod that I could set up on a desk and throw into a carry-on bag. This tripod does not have a level bubble found in the taller tripods that are only a few dollars more; but I use it on a desk. When was the last time you used a desk that wasn't level! The legs extend to 2x the length of the legs shown; but that makes the tripod a little flimsy. No quick release; just a large screw knob to attach the camera; which is fine with me. Don't expect to have smooth panning or tilting - this tripod is not designed for that. The arm gives you basic control of where the camera points, that is all I need. The tripod knocks down to a very small size and has a carrying bag - all reasons I bought it.

    I was looking for a desk top tripod to use with a Sony CX 260V camcorder to record lead ins or additional footage for home movies. The Sony is a very light camcorder. I thought I could get away cheap with this tripod. Unfortunately it had a defect that rendered it unusable. The platform that holds the camera has a very cheap plastic hinge with only a single detent to hold it in place if you move it from fall horizontal to full vertical or vice versa. There are no intermediate stops. It's either full 90° or fall 180°.

    I should say a full 87°. That's the problem. The platform, with any weight on it, will not hold the camera and 90°. I estimate 3° off but it could be as much as 5°. And this is with a very light camera. I don't think this is a defect in this unit only given the way they hinge is constructed.

    I must also say that the way every part moves and locks is pretty cheap. It's hard to believe that other parts of this unit are going to hold up for any length of time.

    I had to return it and selected a more expensive unit.

I do understand that this tripod is very limited in the amount of weight it will hold when angling down in any direction.

    Broke after very little use. The flap that connects to the camera simply lost the ability to hold its position. The spring, upon examination, is revealed as flimsy indeed. Too bad, because the build quality on the rest of the unit is fine, and the price is certainly right. I would buy another, and pay more, if I could just know that it would not break again. But of course this is not an option.

    This tripod is just the right size for a lot of uses. The legs extend out three times to put the platform at a height of 17 inches (all closed up for storage it's about 8 1/2" long), so you still need to put it on a table or chair if you want to be eye level. The legs are pretty thick, and I've even used a heavy DSLR camera on it. Pan and tilt are pretty smooth if you want to shoot a movie. It's sleek looking, too.
