Thought it would be thicker gauge aluminum, but suppose it's meant to be lightweight. Manfrotto should pack it with foam endcaps because as it's shipped two in a box, the ends of the poles get banged around and don't stay round ... and if the end isn't round, it won't fit into the connecting piece. Had to do some metal shaping work to get the end round again to get it to fit together. Other than the packing issues, these aluminum cores do a much better job of holding backgrounds with less sagging, especially in humid conditions.
