DISPOSABLE STOOL?
New wheels are junk. First The original design of the stool was amazing. My grandparents had one it is still in use & is much older than me probably purchased in the 60s. I purchased this one somewhere after 2010 (that is the manufacture date). Within the first year the wheels had broken, I took some doing but I got them replaced under warranty, had to spend my time calling the company and then replacing them.. Very light use, no one in the family is over 150 pounds, they had broken again within a few years. I put it into the basement until we moved last year,The kids were using it in the new kitchen and because the wheels were broken and it did not lift off the floor when it scooted, it broke some of the corners of our tiles. So if you have this make sure that you constantly check that your wheels are properly functioning or damage to your floor is going to far outweigh the cost of the stool. On Amazon the cost of the new wheel assembly is $16 each, the bumper for the sharp metal edge is also $16. That adds up to $64, at which point you’re thinking why not buy a whole new store? But you know that is filling landfills with trash. I Called Cramerinc. They are willing to sell the wheel without the assembly for $4.50, but shipping is $12, and that is not a flat fee it will continue to go up for each wheel that I add + the bumper. The customer service person I was speaking with suggested why don’t I just buy a new stool or I could buy the pieces for $16 each on Amazon, I found this very frustrating because I’m not really one for throwing things in the landfill, I thought I was buying a stool that was gonna last me a very long time but these wheels are absolute trash. I have a $10 wooden stool from ikea, no plastic, still going strong after heavy abuse for 20 years and has never once harmed my floor or broken a tile. Advantage here was that you could kick it along and have it last a long time but turns out I cannot kik it along because it will break my tiles or scratch the floor and it does not last and it uses cheap plastics which are very very bad for our environment, and lead to product failure. And the company seems to stand behind disposing of whole stools rather than making the cheap plastic parts affordable to get into our homes. Honestly buy a nice wooden stool, it will come from a renewable resource, when you’re done you can compost it or perhaps use it for heat. The photo show that the plastic leg on one of the wheels has completely failed, and the internal piece of plastic that holds the wheel up right on the spoke has failed on all three. This is what happened to the first set of wheels as well within a year. As I am already the owner of the stool I have to decide whether not to keep putting resources into a failing product or bring it to landfill which I think I’m leaning towards because I do have a wooden stool…
