Update: Customer Support
Update:Once I was able to get in touch with someone at Teton Sports my issue was resolved quickly. I want to commend Linda at Teton Sports for the support provided. The issue was resolved and I look forward to doing business with them in the future.Original Review:I purchased this backpack approximately 3 years ago. I have used it about 5 times. I like the size of the backpack and purchased based upon the lifetime warranty and the outstanding customer support they say they have. The stitching on the panel where the zipper attaches that separates the main compartment from the sleep bag compartment has always been a little lose but over time it has gotten worse. The zipper is not fully attached all the way around and I reached out to Teton sports to see what can be done to fix this issue. I sent in an email on July 22, 2018 to request support. That same day I received an automated e-mail asking for pcitures of the issue and I sent them into Teton. As of today, Aug 8, 2018, I have not heard back from anyone at the company. If this is what they would consider amazing support I would hate to see what they view as sub-standard support. I was getting ready to purchase another backpack for my son, a boy scout, but based on my experience with this backpack it will not be a Teton sports one. I will take my business to REI. They may cost more but they stand by their sales.

In determining the best pack for the value, I did extensive research of backpacks. My findings lead me to purchase this specific pack and I must say, I am completely happy with it. Keep in mind, the reason I bought the TETON Sports Fox 5200 was because the upcoming trip I am taking will be a week long. With that said, this pack can work well with shorter trips as well. However, I needed something that I could pack a weeks worth of supplies in and still be comfortable and durable enough. This pack met everything I needed. A few reviews I read mentioned the size of the sleeping bag slot being too small. I did find that if you are packing a heavier, thicker sleeping bag, it might not fit in the zipper slot designed for sleeping bag storage; however, a larger sleeping bag could easily be strapped to the bottom of the pack with not problems and also leave you extra storage for other things in that slot. The design fits me perfectly. I'm 5'6", 135 lbs. The pack also contains plenty of straps and D-rings which will allow you to hang stuff or strap it to the pack as well. The shoulder straps and waste band are padded and fit comfortably. I will update this review once I get back from my week long trip to give a more detailed description and also rate its performance in use. So far, I have everything I'm taking packed into the bag and will include a list of everything I am taking as well.

What I packed?

1 - Mess kit w/ 4 sporks (packed together)
1 - First aid kit (stored in the side zipper flap)
1 - 2L Hydration System (hose fits perfectly through the slit and is easy to access)
5 - MREs (military issued meals ready-to-eat)
4 - Gym shorts (packed together)
4 - T-shirts (packed together)
4 - Underwear (packed together)
4 - Socks (packed together
1 - pair of sandals (for relaxation)
1 - pair of tennis shoes
1 - Sawyer Squeeze water filtration system w/ 1 L bag
1 - Rain coat
1 - Rain pants
1 - Under Armor Long sleeve turtle neck (if it gets COLD!)
1 - Swimming suit
1 - bottle of bug spray
1 - LED Flashlight
1 - Pocket knife
1 - Folding knife
1 - 40-60 Degree Sleeping Bag (fit in sleeping bag pouch)
1 - Coleman tent (strapped to top of bag)
1 - Bag for toothpaste and hygene related stuff
1 - Fishing rod (packs nicely in a small, 1.5lb. case)
1 - 1L Water bottle (if water bladder runs out)
1 - Bag of granola bars, power bars, and trail mix

I do realize I am missing a few things other hikers/campers would pack but it is because my friend is bringing the portable stove top and fire starter as well as a few other things such as bear spray and paracord. However, I believe I would not have a problem packing any of this with what I currently have in the bag.

Upon coming back from this week-long adventure, I will provide an update as to how the pack performed for a week long trip. Overall, I am really happy with my purchase and at $70, I dare you to try to find another bag that can hang with this one!

*Updateed 8/10/2013

I felt obligated to give a further review of this pack after I had taken it on a 7 day hiking/backpacking trip. I came to this conclusion: I still feel the same about the pack as I did before! It's GREAT! Had no problems with anything during my trip and it was even more comfortable than I had expected. My friend bought an Alice Pack for this trip which ended up costing him just a little less than what this retails for. The first day on the trail he had a malfunction with the chest strap and ended up breaking it because he couldn't get it to come undone. I had no problems with the pack and it did great on the trip. If your looking for a comfortable pack with lots of space, this is it. Go compare prices and you won't find one that will beat it! Happy shopper here! 5 STARS!

I haven't had a pack for around 15 years, my last was an external frame. this pack is very comfortable and has lots of attachment points. for the way I camp it works beautifully (car camping, with the car parked away from the site). this allows me to carry all my stuff on the pack and leave my hands and arms free to carry a table and cooler, I can make only one or 2 returns to the car as opposed to the 5 or 6 that I am used to. I was able to fit most everything inside, and had a tent, sleeping pad, tripod, lantern, pillow and a couple flashlights all strapped to the outside and it was still comfortable.

this is for smaller people, true. I am 5' 11" and 150lbs., it fits me very well and is comfortable but the belt is a little loose for my liking (30" waist), but I had zero discomfort hiking the mile or two from the car.

for serious backpacking I can see why some would complain, the fabric is thick and relatively heavy, there are a ton of extra loops and stuff on it, but it would be good for a beginner or novice that does not have the need for a real backpacking setup. if you're going for minimal or planning to hike long distances, you might want to buy a pack that is suited for what you plan to do. but I would have no problems hiking with this for as far as my bad knees will allow me. I even wore it last time I did teardown at the end of a festival.

Capacity is good, and I even managed to comfortably fit my $25 non-backpacking sleeping bag inside the compartment with no problems. if I had a water bladder it might take a little work but I never spent more than 30 seconds getting the bag in.

as far as cons go...
-some straps are a bit long. and there is no real strap management to keep the ends of the straps from flopping around. I just tied them to themselves and everything was fine.
-I wish I could easily adjust the belt a bit tighter for my scrawny waist.
-one of the water hose clips was broken on arrival, but since I'm not too concerned since you only need one and it can be moved, even though I'm not using a bladder.
-you can't use the plastic cover when you have anything outside the pack(like a tent or sleeping pad)
-I'm used to something a little wider, and if it were wider you could fit a lot more inside.

the takeaway: it's great for the money, and is worth while even if you're not doing any serious back packing. BUT...if you are an avid backpacker or not thin, you should look for a pack more appropriate for you.

The bag is pretty awesome for the price and the amount of features it has. You can really pack a lot of stuff in, on and around it and that combined with a lifetime warranty you cant go wrong with Teton bags or other gear for that mater. The bag is a bit heavy and not waterproof but you can't have it all for this price. As far as how much time I have put into this bag I would give it an easy several hundred kilometers so I can say with certainty this is a good well tested and recommended bag. I've had about 70lb loads in it with no issues, It's comfy and you'll just have to trust me when I say it's worth it to go ahead and buy it. For the budget hiker it's a good deal.
