    NSF International is an independent nonprofit organization that examines consumer products to ensure they comply with strict standards for certification. By analyzing product materials, observing manufacturing facilities, testing products repeatedly and monitoring product development, the NSF serves as a safeguard for consumer safety. And the GE MWF is NSF certified.

    GE Warranty Information
    For a period of 30 days after the date of original purchase, GE will replace (at no charge) and part of the water filter cartridge that fails because of a defect in materials or workmanship. The warranty extends to the original purchaser and any succeeding owner for products purchased for home use within the United States. The warranty does not include service trips to your home for product tutorials; improper installation; failure of the product if it is misused; replacement of the cartridge because of water pressure that is outside the specified operating range; damage to the product caused by accident, fire, or flood; and incidental or consequential damage caused by possible defects with the appliance.

    Six months ago I ordered one sold by Amazon and it worked great with my fridge.A week ago I ordered another one and did not notice that is not sold by Amazon. At first I thought there is no big deal, it was prime eligible so it arrived on time.I received the package and I noticed something is not right when I tried to replace it. The two filters do not look the same.So I immediately went to Home Depot to buy another one to see which of them is bootleg.I have three photos here:Photo 1 - the boxes:Left - from Appliance Cove, Right - from Home Depot.Left one is a bit smaller. An extra label is there hiding the original barcode. The barcode on top does not match anything from Google search.Right one is a bit bigger. Search the barcode on Google will return you it is GE MWF water filter.Photo 2 - the filter:From left to right: from Amazon, from Appliance Cove, from Home Depot.You can notice that the print of the center one is worse than the others.Photo 3 - the filter again:From left to right: from Amazon, from Appliance Cove, from Home Depot.Again the center one does not look same as the others. The align arrow does not align and it is shorter than the others.Clearly the one from Appliance Cove is a bootleg product.

    I have an Eterna GE refrigerator and have had a hard time finding any box store that carried this particular filter. A quick search on Amazon found the filter I needed. The filter twists into position and sealed first time no problem. I can see how people could try to over tighten and break something. It is really a half or quater turn to be tight and seal. I didn't have to shut off the water before installing and it seemed to work fine. I guess if your ice maker called for water while you were trying to replace the filter you might get a mess or maybe a valve closes when the filter is removed?? Either way no need to shut off the water and the instructions don't indicate you need to either. I added water to the filter before installation per instruction but still had a lot of noise from air in the lines. It took a couple of days but the system is quiet now with no rattling from air in the lines. The water tastes filtered and it removed the smell that had started with a filter that was probably 4 years old.

    We have a sink RO system and the water tastes much better with ice now that we have replaced the filter. We often drink it without ice but with summer on the way I'd imagine the water temperature will be less appealing and require more ice.

    Overall a great purchase but wish plastic and carbon was cheaper!

    I've had my GE fridge for about seven years now. I've watched the price of these filters creep up through the years, and gave into temptation the last time to try out a generic (AquaFresh) model.

    Here's a summary of my experience with these two products:

    Aquafresh WF287:

    The filter didn't feel quite right when installing .. I had to turn it a bit harder than I remembered. Once I began running the water, I immediately noticed black particles (carbon filter bits I suppose) in the water. I think I flushed out about 10 gallons before there were no more noticeable particles in a clean glass. But upon closer examination under good lighting, I could still see a few black specks floating around. I called the company I bought it from (FiltersFast.com) and they sent me a new one.

    Well ... same thing happened with the second filter. I think I ended up flushing about 20 gallons through this time before I was satisfied it was clean enough to drink. I've had no problems since, but when it came time to replace, no thanks.

    I don't think this model triggers the replacement light on my frig, but when I hit nine months of use, I decided I no longer wanted to wait to find out.

    We've been in drought conditions more often than not this past decade in the Southeast, and I hate wasting water. I did put the water on my lawn so it wasn't completely wasted, but still I don't care enough about my lawn to feed it filtered water. :)

    I don't have a problem with FiltersFast.com, but I don't want another Aquafresh filter.

    GE MWF:

    Installed quickly. Water sputters a bit right after installation, but runs clean with no black specks. The directions say to run about 1.5 gallons through to eliminate the sputtering. I think a gallon is enough.

    Overall, if you compare the price of filtered water right from your frig to bottled water, the GE MWF is still an incredible bargain.

    I take my own water to work and save probably hundreds of dollars a year. And I am not filling up the landfills with plastic empties.

    I find the filters last longer than six months, probably about nine months on average before the light kicks on and tells me to buy another.

    Bottled water is all about marketing. Clean, filtered water is nothing but pure H20, same as the expensive bottled waters. I have better things to do with my money.
