Violinist Darol Anger and mandolinist Mike Marshall were pioneers of the New Acoustic Music movement, which brought folk, jazz, bluegrass and world music influences together in an instrumental acoustic setting. Here, for the first time on CD, is their groundbreaking 1983 album The Duo, which highlights their virtuosity, creativity and humor in a wide-ranging selection of breathtaking duets.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.
It's stellar playing but seeing them perform this past fall shows an immense growth in the art and talent. I yearn for more contemporary recordings by these two as they are some of the very, very best!
Can you say chops? These guys have them. How could they not? At the time this was recorded both Darol Anger and Mike Marshall were employed by David Grisman. Anyone who played in the various incarnations of Dawg's bands had to be able to play, at speed and with clarity. Anger and Marshall can do both. Both are multi-instrumentalists on various stringed instruments. On this recording they play mandolin, mandocello, violin and cello. Rob Wasserman contributes the bass parts. Tunes range from Bird (Donna Lee) to Bach (Partita #3 in E Major). The Bach was written for solo violin so of course Marshall plays it on mandolin. There are some of their own tunes including Wall of Mando Madness and some traditional ones like Golden Slippers. If you are a fan of well played passionate acoustic music this ones for you.
