Editorial Reviews

Ultra-rare 1968 album (only 10 copies are known to exist today) from California hard rock band (they sound like a mix between the Who & Big Brother & the Holding Co.) was recorded in the same studios where Cream & Jimi Hendrix were putting down their final tracks, inc. 12 pg. booklet w. photos, interviews & posters.

Stack was a late-60's hard rock group from California who were rediscovered in the mid-80's by record collectors, who deemed their one album some kind of Holy Grail of early hard rock, and no doubt pay ridiculous sums of money for original rare pressings. Stack were actually pretty well known in their time, and gigged with big name groups like Iron Butterfly. They were obviously influenced by other heavy rock of the era. The album has a very Led Zep sounding blues, minus the flashy guitar, and starts with a kind of Blue Cheer-ish cover of "Poison Ivy." They weren't as crude or grungy as Blue Cheer, though, and they certainly weren't the musicians that Led Zep were -- there's one song with a long, fumble-fingered guitar solo that sounds like it could have been played by anyone with two hands. They also suffer somewhat from the long-windedness common in the period. On the positive side, the vocals are very strong, especially on the harmony and backing vocals, and the album has a nice melodic feel to it. This certainly isn't the Holy Grail it's been made out to be, but it might be of interest to fans of early hard rock.

"Stack" has a misfortune to remain obscure forgotten band from California - they played honest acid/hard rock - very much alike to "Blue Cheer" ( Vincebus Eruptum  fortified with a very strong dose of psychedelia and excursions into blues.
Look, the band was at the very beginning, it was 1967, and they were just college kids - but they do sound more confident and convincing than their overseas (British) contemporaries just on the verge of stardom (tell me who didn't torture "Poison Ivy"?).
I like the album. I liked the way the tapes were re-mastered. I am sure you'll enjoy the leaflet - an impressive collection of nostalgic posters from the 60s (those were the days!) hidden behind provoking pre-Raphaelites cover.
That awas a good buy - definitely

Awesome Psych and Progressive Album that came out about 1969,( Not 1967, as stated, it took some time, lots of bands then, plus all the commercializum then in the south land!), totally ahead of STYX at that time with songs like Only Forever, Cars and Hot Days! I think their from Europe and America also. They also have a little of the group Angel, Rock and Roll with Fanny Album (1974) with the song Tragedy Queen! The reviewer that said Merrell Fankhauser and H.S.M. Bounty is not Psych?, sorry dude, when that Album came out, both KMET and KLOS said Psych Rock, and I have to agree with them, that album is totally PSYCH ROCK! My personal opinion about Frank Zappa and the Mothers, Randy Newman,(but that first song he recorded "Last Night I Had A Dream" on a 45 was Awesome, then he blew it!), John Belushi of Saturday Night Live, Chech and Chung ( but I still think "A Day At The Beach" was their best Track!) and Hell, throw in Norman Greenbaum Spirit in the Sky Album and his other early albums from San Fran. like that Egg Plant Song, always remind me of a NOVELTY ACT! But, different strokes for different folks, I guess. Hey, The Strokes, that's a cool band as well. People, get that Album or CD for your collection and throw in Angel if you could find it! P. S. When I mention the songs on CD's and Albums, play those first, because the first song is Poison Ivy. It sounds good but I think that song was beating to the ground so much, don't you agree?

Looks to be the obscure Los Angeles psych / garage band's sole lp. Way I heard it was this album was initially released on (literally) a handful of copies - as few as ten actual copies were manufactured in 1966. Could you possibly get anymore obscure than that? Just the same, I'm loving what I'm hearing on this must-have CD reissue. Tracks that more than make this disc a keeper are the almost pre-Zeppelin like seven-minute "DA Blues", the powerful "Cars", "Everyday", the awesome "Time Seller" and "Hot Days" which certainly makes for good road music. Line-up: Bill Sheppard - vocals, Rick Gould - guitar, Buddy Clark - bass, Kurt Feierabend - rhythm guitar and Bob Clark - drums. Highly recommended for fans of Human Beinz, Thirteenth Floor Elevators, The Monks, The Fugs, Shadows Of Knight, the Seeds and Blue Cheer.

Das Original dieser Vinylplatte wird um 5000 Euro gehandelt. Musikalisch ist dies eher ein langweiliges Gedudel!
