These gaiters stand up to serious abuse. They're the industry standard in my opinion.

I wear a size 10.5 hiking boot (27.5 Mondo). I bought these in size L (8-11) hoping I'd be able to get them over my ski boots while still making them work for my hikers. I'm happy to say that these barely fit over my bulky ski boots and can work over my hikers if I really strap them down. Consequently, these things work great for everything in between! What can be said that hasn't already been said in the multiple other reviews of this product? They're bombproof, weather proof, warm, and huge, allowing them to fit over larger ski / mountaineering boots. If you're just looking for a pair to fit over your hiking boots, you'll want to either size down or go with the standard Crocs. These worked for me and my applications in the advertised size, though. I used these gaiters over a pair of uninsulated mountaineering boots for a recent outing here in the PNW. It got fairly cold, and I'm happy to say that these gaiters helped keep my feet and legs warm, dry, and protected. Below the knees, these gaiters wrapped me in a cocoon of warmth that was quite comforting! In addition to this, my Himalayan guide friend who has years of use in these described them as being "knife proof durable". I'll take his word on this. For a robust, durable gaiter that is weather proof and warm yet breathable, these Gore-Tex Expedition Croc's take the gold.

Bombproof

Great gaiters. Its in the details, see images of the front clasp and instep strap. The tab on the boot lace hook keeps ice/ rocks etc. from wearing it out prematurely. The instep strap has been reinforced and is made of a thicker material, including a place to tuck the tail. OR has also (not pictured) addressed the top cinch strap as well, with a hook-and-loop addition to the cinch buckle. I used to have to tape the tail down for long days and litter carry-outs. The material is durable and I have yet to get it snagged on rocks, branches, or have wet boots/socks/pants despite Colorado winter.

Dependable Iconic Gaiters

Worked great. Wore them on my last sheep hunting trip. Kept my feet dry on multiple creek crossings that were over my hiking boots. Worked very well with keeping me dry from the morning dew. Very got scree or rocks in my boots. They held up really well on the sharp shale. Recommend them to anyone venturing into the mountains.

Recommend to anyone going into the backcountry

I knew that these gaiters were designed for mountaineering boots or ski boots. I was drawn to the Expedition Crocodiles mainly because of the added durability and the color choices. I use these gaiters for elk hunting in Colorado in a very muddy, boggy environment. Because the fit is designed for bulkier boots, I sized WAAAY down to use with my regular hunting/hiking boots. I wear a men's size 10 and have a 16" calf diameter and the SMALL size fits me perfectly. It allows me to layer regular hiking pants and long underwear underneath. The Small size I reckon could fit up to a size 12 boot but if your calves are larger than 16, you'll likely want to go with a medium if you want to layer thicker pants underneath. This is a great product! My only complaint is that OR should adjust their size description online so folks know what size they should get if they don't intend to used these with bulky plastic ski boots or mountaineering boots. The size small will easily accommodate my non insulated scarpa mountaineering boots. I first ordered a large and had to return it.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Used the Expedition gaiters a few times ice climbing, so far no rips! Had a set of standard crocodile gaiters and seemed to cut them above the reinforced ankle patch, hoping the larger reinforcement prevents that issue.

Bomber

Had some Yukon gaiters where the strap ripped and got these to replace them. No problems so far, and my feet are warm and dry.

Primo

I use the Expedition Crocodile Gaiters in an alpine trekking capacity. The upper is an extremely durable Cordura type fabric, and I have no fears of it ripping at any point. The gaiter is very breathable, and ultimately does a phenomenal job of keeping debris out of my boots and my pants dry. Despite this, one of the buckles on the gaiter failed after a tumble down a scree slope bent the buckle hook and snapped it off. For this reason, I have taken off a star. That said, the warranty process through OR is supposed to be exceptional, and I hope I can work something out with them. I have previously used OR Verlas gaiters, and I find these to run about a size larger than those.

Extremely hard wearing, except for the buckles.

I purchased my first Outdoor Research Gators during 'the storm of the century' in December 1996 in Victoria BC. They were American made and fit fantastic. They had a snap at the bottom with a lace hook for the boot and the velcro system held them together to the top where there was a clasp. I finally decided to replace them this year with 2 new pairs. I ordered the same size (large). They are much larger than the originals, made in China and only have the velcro with the lace hook. Much more difficult to put on and too loose. The fabric quality is good, but they should have followed their original sizing and features. disappointed in the fit compared to my originals.

Not as fantastic, disappointed they are no longer US made

Sadly, these otherwise excellent gaiters have a bad design flaw: The front hook to attach the gaiters to the boot is too wide to fit the D ring on my insulated boot. Consequently, I cannot hook them. I have not had this problem with any of my other gaiters. Sizing: I got size XL because XL is supposed to fit up to size 13. I'm a large guy with big calves and wear size 14 boots and the insulated boots that I use when snowshoeing are quite large. I worried that they would be too small. However, they are a bit too big. Maybe I could have gotten a large.
