I had a Performer that I got rid of several years ago (that I had for 10+ years but I left it outside and did not cover it.  Rust finally made it unusable.)  I went a different brand/style/direction for a replacement and instantly regretted my decision, it had ZERO air control even after I added high temp BBQ Gasket.  I hated it so much I bascically stopped grilling.  I had the new Performer delivered and assembled for free by Amazon less than a month ago.  Immediately did a maiden burn (with no food) to burn off any manufacturing gunk, then used it later that same day for dinner.  Love it!  When it was cooled off that night I wiped her down and put the cover on.  I won't encourage this one to an early demise.  Have been grilling several times per week... need to pick up more charcoal soon!

I've been a griller and own quite a few grills. I decided to upgrade my Weber Kettle - and was this the best decision I ever made!  

The best feature:  The gas-assist  charcoal starter. Put your charcoal chimney in the bottom of the grill. Pop the button - and presto - your charcoal is being started. It's uses the little camping type propane bottles. It sounds like a mini torch…there's so much direct flame getting to the coals. After about 3-4 minutes….(you) turn the gas assist off…and coals are ready in about 10 minutes.  This feature works fast!

The kettle in the cart is quite nice. Janette work surface to set plates etc. The storage below or the pull out charcoal bin….all makes grilling easier. 

The roll off and holds the lid mechanism…again, a really nice feature.  You just slide the grill over to the side….it tucks into a basket like area…in a split second…..ans easier than trying to tip the lid more…find that old style interior tab, to hang on the side of the kettle. 

Cooking performance:  What else is there to say:
 It's the same tried and true Weber kettle design cook. It's the best around forever, in charcoal style cooking.

Charcoal Grilling - Made Easier Than Ever!

Everything I loved about my weber kettle at a comfortable work height with a large cleanable work surface.  I didn't think I would like it this much, but it is so well thought out - so convenient- a pleasure to use.  The propane starter I thought was overkill, I was wrong - worth the extra money in pure convenience.  If I was more handy, I may have built my own cart for my kettle.  After owning the Performer Deluxe, unless extremely bored, I wouldn't bother.  The Weber product team have nailed it.

Next level Kettle

The performer deluxe is a game changer for those who do a lot of grilling.  The propane lighting mechanism alone allows for a quick, even burn to get the coals hot quickly.  With the attached table there is plenty of workspace available for prepping.  I highly recommend this product from Weber.

The Game Changer

I upgraded to this from the 18" kettle as I was finding I needed more grill space, but desired more convenience too (I had used the kettle with a charcoal chimney for 6-7 years). 

I found with the propane-assisted lighting, I could prepare other things, not worry about pouring out the coals, etc. - it has also made it easier for me to teach family to get things started. I also am hoping to use the propane-assist to enable me to more easily grill from the late-fall to early-spring (as it's not as convenient with a charcoal chimney then).

In terms of grilling space, when using the charcoal baskets, one has much control over where the heat is and one can use the gourmet grilling system attachments (I've used the griddle so far and it has been great (I used it for frying onions, garlic, and cooking vegetables). I plan to try some of the other items and attachments soon.

My backyard is not fully enclosed, so the cart and frame are very good as I can wheel a slightly cooled barbeque into a better storage area without worrying that the main barbeque portions will touch anything (the frame has enough clearance to ensure this). 

Overall, I am very satisfied :)

Easy to assemble & use, no charcoal chimney needed

I can't say enough about this grill. It is built very well. And the quality is great. I also must give a big 2 thumbs up to customer service. When my grill arrived I noticed 2 chips on the lid. Weber rapidly set this straight by getting a replacement sent out. I know this grill is a bit on the pricey side. But it is worth it.

Weber 22" performer deluxe

This is my 2nd Performer. After 14 years I gave my first one to my son, who is now learning the joys of Weber grilling.  My new one is Crimson Red, and it will be a winner for many years to come. Roll Tide!

Always a winner

I love this grill! Replaced my Weber Performer that I purchased in 2002... 21 years I've had & used my first grill & finally upgraded to the Deluxe version. I set my old grill out in my driveway with a Free sign on it & it was gone within an hour. I love the metal table on the Deluxe, have only grilled on it twice so far & haven't yet used the propane quick starter on it. I'm looking forward to many more years of grilling!

Weber Charcoal Grills Rule!

Nice build, good quality and easy to put together. As with all Kettle grills, heat control is fairly straight forward using the top and bottom vents. Biggest downfall is attaching the handle and thermometer to the lid of the kettle. Despite adjusting both, there seems to still be heat loss and smoke through the thermometer specifically. It does not seat correctly and it's visible by the angle of the thermometer vs. the collar it goes into before you tighten to the lid. While I find this disappointing, I don't believe it affects the use of the grill. 

Here is to many years of cookouts on this Performance Deluxe.

Great kettle grill, 1 flaw

First of all, I love Weber kettle grills. I have used an older Weber kettle for almost a decade. They work great and when you cover them up while not in use they can stand the test of time.

The swivel lock casters, metal side table, lid holder, built in lid thermometer, and added height are game changing upgrades i didn't even know i wanted. Premium quality of life upgrades that improve the overall grilling experience. This grill sits higher than my old Weber kettle and my back appreciates it. 

I was also pleasantly surprised to see the grill came with charcoal baskets. I didn't realize they would be included.

The wheels and casters work very well. The ease of moving the grill around is pretty smooth and very easy. The caster lock can be pushed with my toe. 

Unfortunately, it isn't all sunshine and rainbows and I do have a few small gripes with the Weber performer Deluxe. Inside the grill where you attach the lid holder, the bolts extend a little too far into the grill. This makes lifting the grill grate straight out of the grill impossible. You have to tilt the grate and slide it out diagonally. Not a huge deal. I have heard some people grind or file these bolts down to allow clearance for the grate. I will probably do this in the future.

This grill came with the gourmet bbq system, which is a small circle in the grill rack that can be changed out with other accessories inserts. At first I was very excited about the GBS but when I went to clean my grill grate with a brush, the GBS portion of the rack popped out of place several times. This has proven to be a nuisance and now I must be more mindful of how much pressure I am using to brush the center of the grate or hold the GBS in place while I clean. I have the GBS sear grate and it works very well.

The built in timer works fine, but I have a smart phone, this is a fluff feature that doesn't really add value for me personally.

The tool holder pegs are cool in theory, but most of my tools don't fit properly. But for most of them I imagine I can tie some paracord to make a loop that will work just fine. 

The charbin storage container is kind of a nuisance to me. I don't use it to store charcoal, or really anything. My grill lives outside with a cover on, and I keep my charcoal in the garage away from the elements. Sometimes when I move the grill the charbin storage flops out and bumps my knees. No bid deal, just kind of annoying. I have seen that some people use this bin as a trash can. And that might be a good use for it. 

I have not used the propane touch n go ignition system. I have a chimney starter that I use and i haven't gotten around to buying a mini propane bottle to try out this feature. Seems interesting to me but I like the chimney too. I will note that during assembly the push button was very awkward to install and it kind of just covers the back of a battery that you push into the circuit to ignite a spark on the other end of the wire. It's a very fiddly button that could fall off and get lost easily.

Overall, it's a great grill. A massive upgrade above more basic grills. I was seriously shocked how much I appreciated the little touches Weber made to enhance the grilling experience. Even with my gripes, I still love this grill.

Consumer Care

I recently replaced my Weber Performer grill (purchased in 2006) with the 2023 version. The one replaced was a much better-quality product than this 2023 model.
For comparison, the modern model deficiencies include:
* The kettle is constructed of a thinner gauge metal.
* The thermometer is mounted flush with the kettle dome, making it impossible to read unless you are on top of it.
* The kettle top vent cover is not formed well to the shape of the kettle which prevents an air-tight close. This is important because it is used to choke off air to the coals, putting out the burning coals and saving them for future cooking. The bottom kettle vent is also not formed well to the shape of the kettle. When shut off, it also allows air flow into the kettle. The old version would cool to the touch in 1/2 hour. The new version is still hot to the touch (100 plus degrees) after two hours.
* The ash catcher at the bottom of the kettle has two "de-hancements": 1) Thin gauge, stamped catcher-pan. The old was a thicker gauge molded pan. 2) The pan attaching mechanism is also not as robust as the older model.
* The attached cooking-support table is made of stamped metal with a painted coating. It is attached with four screws, their heads sitting on top of the table. The old model had a composite material of some sort. The four screw heads were in-set on the top of the table, preventing any possibility of scratching pans, glass or cooking tools.

It is too bad that I gave away the old model before I tried the new model. I would have given away the new model.

The new model works, but the old one was way better made. This is probably a sign of the times. But I expected better from Weber.
