Kwikset model 99090-019 has an optional Mastercode as an added security measure. To add a Mastercode please: 

1. Keep the door open. Press and HOLD the Program button until the keypad flashes green (about 5 seconds).
2. Enter new Mastercode.
3. Press Lock button once.
4. Re-enter Mastercode.
5. Press Lock button once.

If programming is successful, the keypad will flash green once with one beep. If programming is unsuccessful, the keypad will flash red three times with three beeps. Make sure the Mastercode has not already been programmed. Attempt the procedure again, making sure to enter the same new Mastercode in step 2 and 4.

6. Make sure switch #3 is on, and press the Program button once. If you hear three beeps and see the keypad flash green, the Mastercode is enabled. Please note, the lock will time out after five seconds.

I purchase this with the matching lock set with curve handle. My family and I have been more then happy. Forgotton keys a thing of the past.
Has never failed in over a year. Batteries last a long time and flashes when it needs replacement.

I use this product on a closet in my office to secure it it is a great idea works fantastic with the twist knob on the inside if by some chance a little person got in there you could unlock it it just adds one more level of security very satisfied I also have a power bolt from the garage to the house

After working all day and driving home, I just want to get inside my home and unwind. As I dig for my key, I realize that I can just use my master code and enter. So much easier indeed. Once inside, I notice the cleaning service came today and used the 'Alt' door code I provided for them so they may have in/out access to perform their job. (no keys needed) I change this code each time to provide added security between services. Once I lock the door for the night from the inside, I see a 'blinking red' light that lets me know the door is locked. Headed for secure sleep.

Same home key, great features.

The unit is extremely easy to install and having a Kwikset key it was very easy to key the new lock following the instructions. Programming is a snap. Highly recommended.

Easy installation and great features

Love ability to set multiple codes! One for trusted maid service, a temporary code for short-term house guests, another for a handyman. Very convenient and easy to change or disable codes.

We originally purchased one of these for our back door, after about a year, we decided to install one on the front door as well, and I'm seriously considering another for the service door on our detached garage.

Both of the locks in use were easy to install, the directions provided are very well written and the illustrations are clear and easy to understand. Both locks have also performed flawlessly, the only thing that I've needed to do is to file the strike plate on the back door to ease deadbolt engagement. The only (minor) thing is that the finish on the outside component of the back door lock has become discolored with time, but everything still works just fine.

We just love that we can't lock ourselves out of the house with these, that we can set codes for other people to enter the house when we're not here (and then erase them), and that the lock cylinders are well made and pick resistant. Worth Repeating!

We've had this coded deadbolt for over a year now. I installed it on our front door with a handle from a Kwikset kit while replacing all door knobs and deadbolts. I simply subbed the electronic deadbolt for the normal one (and used the normal one on one of the back doors). I like it a lot and my wife loves it. We have toddler twin boys and I leave earlier than she does, so packing boys, lunch, gym clothes, coffee, etc was hard enough without fumbling and dropping the keys. Now she simply has to press the button and voila! The fact that it lights up at night when you forgot to turn on the porch light is especially convenient. I bought the deadbolt on sale at lowes, used a coupon, and got their military discount so the value is outstanding. I use Energizer's best battery (expensive, but they last) and I just recently changed them for the first time. By the way, changing or installing the batteries is a snap, just slide the cover off. I turned off some of the lighting and unnecessary battery-draining features and I recommend others do the same if possible. It looks amazing and guests compliment the looks and the features. I'd buy it all over again if I had it to do over, and that's saying something because I can be pretty critical. Go ahead, if you're buying a deadbolt you're on the hook to spend some cash anyway, so you might as well splurge a tiny bit for an upgrade.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This lockset will only fit if installed upside down.  The slide bolt and key pad have to be installed upside down or the torque blade and turnpiece shaft to align.  The two pieces are 180 degrees out of palhase. One might be able to install only the inside panel upside down, but the door knob generally prevents that.  Anyway this product takes hours to install and will not install properly.  I hope I just got a badly manufactured one. Garbage.
