I wish I could tell you what happened to my original splash guard, but unfortunately,  I can't because I don't know.  One day it was there and the next day it wasn't.  Stranger things have happened but not involving inanimate  garbage disposal components.  Upon discovering the splash guard MIA, I began a search for a suitable replacement. 

Perhaps you think I should have devoted some time looking for the missing guard.  Well, I live alone and having no innocent bystander to blame for its disappearance,  I decided to move quickly through that portion of the problem and go straight to replacement.

I began an on-line search that started with learning that the missing black thing that goes in the garbage disposal hole is called a splash guard.   Having never lost a black thing before, I was not familiar with its proper name which makes trying to find a new one somewhat difficult.   I quickly learned that searching for "black thing that goes in the garbage disposal hole" leads not to a replacement but to numerous sites that are best not talked about in this review.

Eventually, I found replacements on the "big box" stores web sites and much to my surprise, the black thing that goes in the garbage disposal hole is expensive and come in a variety of sizes, makes and models.  Who would have thought that?

Here comes the good part.  Refusing to pay $15 for something that covers a garbage disposal hole, I turned to my old standby  Walmart.  It was here that I found a replacement under $5 that fit the hole, was readily available and could be shipped to my local Walmart without incurring a shipping fee.   

Happily I ordered the part, picked it up a couple of days later, put it into the garbage disposal hole and Waa Laa, problem solved.   In the process I learned several things.  The black thing that goes in the garbage disposal hole can:
1.  Mysteriously disappear
2.  Has a name, Splash Guard
3.  Has a price tag higher than a T-bone steak
4.  Has a cousin that fits the hole better that the original and 
5.  Girls rule and we can fix things around the house without help.

Splash Guard

This splash guard fit my Kenmore disposer just like the original.  I had purchased a replacement at Home Depot which was 1/4 inch too large.

It works.

Perfect fit, couldn't be better. My old one was so worn the "fins" were wide open downward allowing food to spit out and the noise was unbearably loud. Then one is a nice tight fit and ever so quiet.

Pefect fit for my GE disposer.

The back splash was very reasonably priced, sturdy and easy to install.

I couldn't find the right baffle/splash guard at any home improvement store for my GE GFC320F garbage disposal. They were all too large. This one fits and does the job.

Does what it needs to.

it is tight when you first put it in and has to be broken in; but it works like it should.

This product was a replacement part to my GE garbage disposal which is 13 years old.    The part fit perfect. The price was very reasonable.
