This is my third purchase, no they don't break it is because they look so good.  I moved into my home several years ago.  I put one in my entry way for coats and purse hooks.  The second one in my bathroom for robes and towels.  I just re-decorated my daughters bathroom and did not have room to put a towel rack due to the door location and this worked out great as the door does not hit it when opened.
