I'm loving this DVD player so far. I've watched maybe 15 or 20 hours of programming on the thing to date. I haven't tried the karaoke function yet -- even though I purchased a matching "Naxa Professional Microphone" to go with this player. When I first installed this new machine, it seemed that there was some sort of problem with the sound since I couldn't hear part of the dialog in a Star Wars movie I was using to test everything out, but I soon realized that the audio output was preset from the factory for 5.1 Surround, and a quick toggle in the setup menu configured it to the regular left-and-right stereo connections I was using. Speaking of which, I connected the unit to my TV using component video (3 wires) and just the 2 audio RCA plugs, and everything looks and sounds great! I like the size of this Naxa DVD because it's the same width (17") as the other audio and video components in my home system. The remote control works well from across the room, but it does seem to require being pointed directly at the sensor. As another reviewer noted, the blue LEDs which surround the disc tray stay on all the time, and these lights can be a little annoying, but they aren't a deal-breaker for me.

My family, friends and I have really been enjoying this naxa DVD karaoke player it has change our life, since we got it we can't seem to get off of it we been singing karaoke everyday since we got the it, also have been enjoying looking at movies it is the best I would recommend that other families should get one, everyone that's been to our house asked my husband and I were did we buy this system from and we told them walmart now they all want to go out and purchase one.

You get what you pay for. It does its job playing DVDs for a cheap price. Complaints are the bright blue LED lit disk tray which is always lit during stand-by and play and can be distracting. Second complaint is the default setup is "PCM" audio output and "Video" only video output. Good that it has an S-Video connector which give a better picture than composite video but you have to 1st connect the yellow "video" DVD output to the video input on your TV to get the setup menu from the remote control. You then change the video output to S-Video and reconnect the DVD to your TV with an S-Video cable (not included). While you are in the setup menu, if you have a receiver that decodes the audio output for Dolby Digital sound, you have to change the "Audio" setup to "Raw" rather than "PCM" mode to get Dolby Digital decoded audio. Once you get everything set-up to your preferences, it loads quickly and plays fine. I don't have an HDTV yet so I don't use the Progressive Scan and since I have digital decoding through the receiver, I don't use the 5.1 channel audio output.

Average cheap DVD player.

I bought this item because I was shopping for a DVD player that would play digital video files explicitly. The manufacturer says this product can play MP4 as well as AVI video files, however I have found that the only video format that it can play is AVI which for me I can fairly deal with okay.

A lot of people have complained about the blue light around the disk tray. I must say it is indeed annoying and stupid, but it gets even dumber. On the front of the DVD player is a power button that is a for real power button much like you would find on a power bar. Push it and it makes a loud clicking noise and sinks into the unit in the ON position. This then send power into the dvd player, turns on the blue light, and allows the unit to operate. On the remote is a normal power button...push it and it puts the DVD player into sleep mode...the LED Display goes off as you would expect but the bright blue ring stays lit.

Now let's say your waking by the DVD player and want to turn it on from the unit itself and not by the remote...in sleep mode there is no way to wake it up without turning off the "Power kill switch" and then turning it back on. Meaning two clicks. Now...let's say you did the reverse...the dvd was playing and you turned it off by turning off the "power kill switch" well...you can't turn on the dvd player using the remote.

Since this unit will at least play AVI files I am mostly pleased with it and it's performance. For those of you who are wondering if it will play UDF format disks...yes it will but I have found it only supports older formats like 1.5, I know for a fact it will not support 2.5.

Good, but now what you would expect

Purchased online and picked up at store, however, 3 of 6 audio outputs were not working (I tested all my speakers and found that it's the problem of the audio outputs). Returned to store next day and ordered another one again, hopefully, it's gonna be ok this time.

The tray wouldn't open. Called Naxa Customer Support. They said just return it to Walmart and I did. Disappointed. Ordered another one. Will try it again hopefully with better results.

DVD tray would not open, and remote did not work. Contacted customer service at manufacturer's website and received no response after a week. Returned the item.
