It was relatively easy to install. We are getting ready for the summer heat in California and power loss is something we have to deal with. I will let you guys how it goes.

bought as an upgrade

I run a satellite SoHo with Enterprise grade hardware. Having a battery backup to begin with is a relief. This allows me to protect our Firewall, Server, Switch and WiFi router from outages, surges and brownouts. I bought this one because it can handle extended runtime with an expansion pack. With everything connected, I get about 15 to 35 minutes of runtime depending on load.

Excellent solution for SoHo server.

My Tripp-Lite Samrt1500LCDXL developed a problem with the LCD screen after 2 years and 11 months of continuous 24/7 use. The warranty was for 3 years. As soon as I described my problem to the Tripp-Lite service technicians, they immediately gave me an RMA, sent me a new Smart1500LCDXL and all I had to do was pay the postage to return the unit with the faulty LCD screen. These people really take care of you. These units are rock-solid. But if any problem does occur, Tripp-Lite stands very firmly behind their products. You can't go wrong with the Tripp-Lite brand!!

Warranty Is exceptional!

We use this product inside several racks protecting our teleconference and AV equipment. The unit works well and is very dependable but just be sure to test unit periodically and keep it free and clear of dust buildup and it could last you a very long time. We found that the fans will begin to knock and run very loud if there is any dust build up. It would be nice to have a filter to help keep dust away from fan and internal parts. The filter would be a line of defense and easy to clean and would not constrict the air flow unit needs to cool its self. I recommend this product for protection and back up power.(don't forget I would like design improvement ideal credits if any portion of ideal is used)

Tripp Lite Smart 1500LX

My home Network (2 AP's, Router...), 8 Camera System w/NVR, NAS, and Computer is connected to this UPS. We installed the UPS and had a power outage the next day and was able to stay up and running for about 40 minutes. It worked well and is connected to Synology NAS, which emailed me within 30 seconds of the power outage. If I were to change anything, I may have went with one that connected through Ethernet.

I had an older non-rack mounted UPS from another vendor being used to supply power a couple of rack servers in my small business. When the unit began to fail, I decided to give Tripp-Lite products a try and I purchased this device because it was rack-mountable and the price was excellent. This unit provided us with a 50% increase in VA rating and it more UPS protected outlets over the failing UPS. Installation was quick and easy. I didn't give it 5 stars ONLY because the battery isn't serviceable in this unit, but the upgrade to daisy chain an add-on external battery is intriguing. Overall a great product at a great price for any small business.

Great power unit! I'm a very happy customer!

I have one in our server/network rack in our new building. The first power loss we experienced the UPS failed with a battery error. I contacted them and, after some minor troubleshooting steps to verify the failure, a new one was on the way. I received the replacement unit and returned the defective unit. I have had no problems with the replacement unit.

They stand behind their products

I have always liked Tripp Lite products. It was time to add another SmartPro 1500 UPS to my network, but I realized that the newer high efficiency power supplies are requiring "sine wave" power in order for them to operate. I was forced to return this unit reluctantly, and I looked at Tripp Lite's offerings and noted that their pricing is far higher for the equivalent performance as other brands. It is a shame, as my still currently running prior unit has gone through 4 battery changes after 11 years and is still going strong. Tripp Lite, I hope that you can re-engineer your power supplies to offer sinewave power for a comparable price as the competition. Love the product, but the price for sine wave is not matching the competition.

So far the unit is operating great.  The issue is that the UPS fan runs 100% all the time.  While this sits currently sits in my network room, this is a show stopper for me adding it to my office server rack.  I emailed Tripplite and this was their response:

Thank you for your recent inquiry.

The cooling fan in the SMART1500LCDXL unit will run all the time regardless of load, battery charge, and ambient temperature. This is normal performance for this unit and any of our other fan cooled model UPS units.

I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may cause. Please let me know if you have any further questions. 

I really appreciate the honesty, but can't say I'd buy this again.

This unit is well priced for the features it gives. 1500vA with the option of adding a battery pack. Setup is easy and straight forward. My biggest complaint ... and it's a BIG issue for me ... is that the fan on this unit NEVER GOES OFF. It's a variable speed fan that does speed up and slow down as needed, but it is always on. I purchased it for my AV (audio/video) entertainment system. I can't enjoy what I'm watching because there is a constant whirring of small fans going on. If you are installing this somewhere where a constant low-level noise won't bother you, then it's a great product. Otherwise, I'd suggest finding a different UPS where the fans only spin up when in battery mode.
