Yes, I believe it will work well in a classroom but you would need the microphone with it, in my opinion. It does do very well getting rid of surrounding noise with the filters.

Yes, and the manual gives good suggestions on how to minimize background noise. Also an optional external microphone can be added for more demanding situations. Do a test recording first to be sure.

If only the teacher is speaking, it will work great. It won't make great recordings if there is a lot of background noise like other students talking or other students making noise. The closer the recorder is to the teacher the better.

I bought this Sony voice-activated recorder for college class lectures and exam reviews. After reading the other product reviews on this item, I was sold. I have no regrets. The quality of sound and value for the dollar amount are both outstanding! I definitely reccommend :)

Awesome value

Same day pick up was great. I didn't have to hunt for what I wanted. I don't know how well the recorder works yet. I can let you know when I come back from Waverly Hills Sanitorium and listen for bumps and voices.

I was nervous about using a digital recorder...I was afraid I wouldn't be able to figure out how to make it work, I was extremely surprised at how simple it was right out of the box. It does everything all the reviews say it does and it does it with ease. I would highly recommend this to a friend and anyone who wants to have a digital recorder do everything that it says it can and actually figure it out with ease!!!

This product was very easy to use

I've owned this digital recorder for about a month and I am impressed. I did not expect the built in mic to be this good. Prior to purchase, I thought I would need an external mic to make good quality recordings of conversations. The built in mic produces respectable recordings even when the recorder is concealed. I was please to discover that the recorder did not require any special computer drivers. I attached the recorder to my computer with the supplied USB cable and my computer detected it with no problem. When connected to my computer it functions like a USB storage drive. The included software is somewhat useful but is not really needed. I think that this may be the best digital voice recorder available at the price point of about $60. For my needs, I will never need a recorder better than this one.

Possibly the Best $60 Digital Recorder

Great features for the price. The only thing missing is a time stamp ID for the files created but these can be found when the files are downloaded to a computer and read from the file details. Excellent audio quality. Great for making digital mp3 files from old analog recordings just by transferring from tape machine to the Sony IC recorder. Very pleased with purchase. So far (3 weeks) no warranty issues.

Great Recorder

I bought the recorder for my boyfriend's birthday. He loves it! He uses it for business as well as personal. He is extremely happy with it! The shippiing time was also perfect!

I have used this recorder in an auditorium to record a talk. Audio is clear, no noise to distract (recorded from middle row). I have also used a cable to connect an old tape recorder. It picked up the audio and converted it to mp3 and I uploaded it to my PC. This is a great choice for you, you can also record directly from a radio with added cable.

This recorder was smaller than I initially had an idea of size. I am used to more clunky sizes and this almost fits in the palm of my hand. This was a gift to my daughter so that she and her daughter could practice reading and listening to each other. So far it is working out great. My daughter is starting her college career in a few months so we have to see how this performs recording lectures and any study group sessions that are necessary.
We didn't give it five stars because my daughter just started using it so we have to wait and see how the lecture recording goes. Also, my Walmart didn't give a premium packaged product. When I got it, the packaging was dinged and dented. The recorder appeared perfectly okay but when I give a gift that has some scrunched packaging, I get nervous about the whole affair.

As expected

I was looking for a recorder that would pick up recordings well while cutting down on background noise. This unit does just that and is easy to use. Would like to have it be more compatible with Dragon Speak Home. You have to transfer to the program as if you were speaking live. The transfer software does not work as well as the instuctions would indicate. Overall, very good, moderately priced prduct.

Does what it is supposed to do!

The main reason for choosing this Sony recorder was that you could download the recordings to my computer. I would recommend this recorder. It's very user friendly. The only negative thing I would say is that if you are recording a lecture, you need to be sitting close to the person lecturing.

Easy to use recorder

I really like it it works just as I thought it should, seems to be a good buy for the money.
Only 1 complaint, the screen is sometimes hard to see in brighter light.
