Your DVD recorder doesn't recognize 'time' as a factor for recording - the '2 1/2', 3, or 4' refers to the general rate of data being written to the DVD disc, regardless of 'time'

Generally, for movies, 1.5+ hrs is the max for a single-layer DVD. However, most burner software has the ability to 'recode' (compress) the movie in order to get longer movies onto DVD discs.

You may want to check out alternate formats for burning movies to DVD, such as DivX, AVI, MKS, etc that will allow longer movie 'run-times' on 'single-layer' DVDs

I can not record any longer than 2 hrs on this dvd, it shuts it's self off after 2 hrs, even if I don't time record. So I will have to get s different brand that will play longer.

Yes, at a recording of SLP (super long play) will record up to 6 hours.

I use this DVD on my machine on a regular basis and I record using the 6hr format without any problem. If your machine is capable this DVD will record up to 6hr per disc

"speed of 16x"
This refers to a recording speed. You want the slower 4x speed for slower playback, higher quality showing of all the data recorded onto the disc. If there is a recorder out there that can "Write/ Record" at 16x thats great, but most high end newer units play back at 4x or less. If you have say, a unit thats older and plays back at 2x speed, theres a site to go to to get the software/ info or (firmware upgrade), that will make your older unit able to use these newer high speed 4x discs, That web site is listed in the Memorex DVD+rw Item description as,

I don't think they make any DVD+RW at that high a speed. The RW speed is the max record speed. I also believe even any 8X is going to be expensive if you can find them.

The speed of recording on a disc is diffrent than the speed it can be played. Ideally you want to record slower as not to take the chance of a bad recording. Most all DVD-rw's record at 2x-4x. I'm guessing the 16x is the speed it can be played at max.

I've used dozens of different brands of recordable DVD discs, but Verbatim discs are the best by far. With others I've tried, there are always at least a few that are duds (especially when you buy a spindle of 50 discs). Not so with Verbatim. Every disc records without any problems at all. I highly recommend them. You won't be disappointed.

I needed a RW system so that I could record on the DVR and play on another DVD player. +RW works best and Magnavox DVR listed this in the owner's manual the Verbatim brand as one that would play on their system.

I needed +RW & Magnavox DVR recommends this brand.

These discs have to be formatted to record video on my Panasonic DVD recorders.  This is done easily.  Once formatted these discs perform as well as any other.  Unlike RAM discs they can not be edited.  They can easily be rerecorded multiple times.  If you have a hard disc drive recorder you can edit a recording then transfer that recording to these discs.  Once finalized I have not had any trouble playing them on any DVD player.

No problems

I have two magnavox DVD recorders. I record many programs on DVD HD in bedroom and sometimes want to watch them on my DVD recorder in family room. I can only do this by copying onto the RW disc. These work fine for this. I record in HQ so can only put one hour on a disc. My magnavox only works with certain DVD RW and this was one. I only needed one disc, but any "single disc" I could find on Amazon or ebay was about $10 with shipping. I found this 10 box set with ship to store on Walmart.com for $10 and now I've a lot of backup discs...may even sell half of them. The cheapest DVD RW in the Walmart store was something like $13/5.

Fine job of recording

The only available DVD+RW's available in our small town WalMart were the Memorex. These Memorex DVD+RW's would not work in two different computers or with three different software burner programs. The Verbatim DVD+RW's had to be purchased online and shipped Site-to-Site to the local store. This takes a little longer, but is free. Verbatim's work just fine with whatever combination of computer/software is used. Since they were on sale I actually saved money.

Worked with HP1040i DVD, Memorex would not

I dubbed several old vhs christmas videos to Verbatim DVD + RW.......The quality of the video is very good

This is a very good product.  I had an Imation DVD-RW turning troublesome (one out of 4 other good ones) after a couple usages, and need a new one for data storage .  
With my previous experience of Verbatim thumb-drives - that is when one of mine became bad after a few years, Verbatim honored their warranty by  sending a new one to replace the garbled one - I was willing to try their other products.

I have since used the Verbatim DVD-RW, it went smoothly & more speedily than the previous Imation media.  Another advantage is the accompanying case, which is slender, thus taking less room to keep.

What can you say about blank media? The main reason why we went with the Verbatim brand to begin with was that there were only two brands of blank media available on the shelves in all the retail stores, Memorex and Verbatim.

One must always be on the lookout for defective disks. That means recordable media fresh out of the carton that is defective from the factory, and is thus rendered completely incapable of being recorded upon. Grrr. We found only ONE defective disk per package of TEN Verbatim disks, compared with up to 40-60% defective disks per package of Memorex.

Additionally, each Verbatim disk comes furnished with it's own 'slim-line' jewel case, as statistics show that recorded disk media typically lasts much longer when each disk is stored in it's own case, rather than being stored in a vertical stack.

We strongly recommend the Verbatim brand of DVD-RW over Memorex.
