It was under $10. Other stores I went to wanted $20. Yes, you can paint it.

I have only used mineral oil with a brush on application.  Use plenty and let it soak in over night. Use a damp clothe to remove any that didn&#39;t soak in.  This is safe and restores the wood. You can also do this with your breadboars in the house!!

I would not paint it...just let the cedar age naturally. Box was about $10, and will last several years, despite using staples instead of screws.

Best to leave it unpainted.  If you must paint or apply a finish, make sure it is a light color so the box does not absorb excessive heat.  Do not paint or stain the interior, otherwise, it will not appeal to the birds.   Applying a finish should be done in the nesting off-season, i.e., late fall or winter.   The cedar will last for several years unfinished, so for $10, that's still a bargain. Plenty of boxes, protection from predators, and frequent (weekly) monitoring during nesting season is the key to success.

You should not hang a bluebird house. Mount it on a metal pole like 1&quot; emt conduit from the big box lumber stores. Do an internet search on mounting bluebird houses to protect the occupants from predators.

No, it does not.  It comes with two screws that are not really wood screws and two holes in the back wall of the house.  I defy anyone to manage to screw a screw through the bottom hole through the front opening door of the house.  Not possible as far as I am concerned.

No hangers but the two holes in the back of the birdhouse match up perfectly with the holes in the vertical t-post bracket from Tractor Supply.   Just bolt it to the bracket and slide it over a  t-post.

I am not aware of any &quot;approved&quot; bird houses, however, the measurements/size would be similar to the acknowledged Peterson, Troyer and Lenker houses. The main thing is the size of the hole opening which is 1 1/2 inches. We have been using these houses for 14 years and average 220 fledglings of bluebirds and songbirds successfully. In addition to having a very nice appearance they are very well built. They are opened weekly to monitor activity, cleaned after fledglings leave for the next nest to be built and require little if any repair.

I used to purchase these houses are Lowe&#39;s Home Improvement stores for approximately $15, therefore, when I found that they were discontinued at Lowe&#39;s I was thrilled to see them at Walmart for ~$10. I think that in comparison to other &quot;sponsored&quot; houses they are a great buy (additional boxes are referenced at the below link to the Bluebird Society of Pennsylvania&#39;s online store).

From what I have seen it is the same size.

I would highly doubt that it would be approved.  The dimensions are all too small.

It was so easy and quick to put up even comes with the nail to hang it. Easy access door for cleaning out. Either in an hour from putting it up a bluebird moved in!

Great quick bluebird house

I am very pleased with this bird house.  I have 5 on my property.  Been using for over 4 years now.  My first one lasted 4 years and I just replaced it this winter.  I have had Chickadees, Bluebirds and Titmice build nests and fledge their young.  I like it above others I have seen because you open it from the top.  If you buy one that opens at the bottom you are not able to open it to observe the nest and the growing babies. With this bird house you can VERY carefully open the top and peek in to take pictures which   
I have done over and over again quickly and quietly so as not to disturb the babies. It's cedar so it holds up well.  It is easy to clean.  Just open fully and wipe out the nest and insides.  I would definitely recommend to others and I have bought 3 more to put away for future use.  They are also very affordable. Hope this helps you make your decision.

Birds love This Bird House

Just purchased 7 more of these. Reasonably priced and the construction is good. We have 3 others that have been up for 4 years and have held up well without any issues. The bluebirds (and the swallows) love them.

This bluebird house worked so well that we are now watching our second round of babies this year! Just don’t place it near any trees or shrubs. Bluebirds don’t like it.

Excellent house - very successful!

Birds like them.  I wasnt sure for awhile but after 2 weeks the birds decided to move in.  I have purchased four total and mounted them 5-6 ft high.  Three have blue birds (in fence rows between fields mowed for hay) and one Carolina chickadees (on an old post near an old pear tree).

Success! I will buy more.
