Not a Diet 5A - Great Sticks

The previous reviewer nailed it for the Vic Firth Classic 85A wood tip drumsticks. These are really good sticks. You can get some serious sounds from your drums and cymbals with these sticks whether you need volume or you need to go lighter. There is a reason why Mark Guiliana uses these drumsticks and I can see why! I am still using my Steve Gadd sticks which I like very much, but these are going to have a place in the rotation for sure. Thank you Sweetwater and many thanks as always to my sales engineer Chris!

Music background: Drumming for the fun of it.

Diet 5A ? I think not.

I'm waiting for the day a product description for drumsticks, any drumstick, includes the adjectives "buttery" or "smokey", or worse, "juicy". Not that the above description call this stick a "Diet 5A" but the Vic Firth site does. However, this site describes 85A stick as lightweight and fast / great for jazz. I can just see all the eager jazz drummers in the throws of stick trials reading that and having a glimmer of hope. Well, there's nothing diet or jazz about the Vic Firth 85A and when it comes to drum set drumming you don't buy a stick based upon a style of music but rather the anatomy of your hand. As for fast, that is not something a drumstick determines. Sorry kids, but this stick is good for anything you can hit if it fits your mitts. I'm certainly no Rich Redmond but I bet I've gigged more hours than any drummer Sweetwater has ever called a customer and the 85A has proven to be the do it all stick that I depend upon 16 to 20 hours a week and I ain't talking about gospel chopping church jams on Sunday until midnight. In my hand, the 16" length paired with the .55 diameter makes for a balance that doesn't fight me on doubles and ghost notes and doesn't fail me on strong backbeats and it wouldn't be the same stick at all without the medium taper and tear drop tip.
