The Most Formidable PreSonus StudioLive Yet

The PreSonus StudioLive 32S is a powerhouse — it’s PreSonus’s most formidable offering yet. This 32-channel digital mixer boasts a dual-core FLEX DSP engine with enough muscle to drive 286 simultaneous processors, and then some. What’s more, its FLEX FX multi-effects processor vaunts four slots of reverb emulations and delays with four dedicated effects buses.

Benefit from easy expandability thanks to built-in AVB networking. Enjoy versatile operation by virtue of the 32S’s 16 Flex Mixes. Shape and polish each channel to perfection, courtesy of PreSonus’s lauded Fat Channel processing. The PreSonus StudioLive 32S includes a comprehensive software suite, which enables you to make top-flight recordings right from the get-go.

Dual-core FLEX DSP engine boasts impressive processing muscle

The PreSonus StudioLive 32S is packed with serious power. Its dual-core FLEX DSP engine possesses enough processing muscle to run 286 simultaneous processors, 26 mix buses, and 40 mixing channels. And its FLEX FX multi-effects processor includes four slots of reverb emulations and delays with four dedicated effects buses. At Sweetwater, we’re impressed by the sheer amount of raw power that’s lurking under the 32S’s hood.

Three options for multitrack recording

The PreSonus StudioLive 32S gives you three efficient options for multitrack recording. A built-in SD card recorder allows you to record all inputs simultaneously, and you can also play back from the SD card to do virtual soundchecks without a computer. You can also connect to a computer via USB for 64 channels of recording and playback — almost twice that of previous generations. And the StudioLive 32S supports AVB over Ethernet too, enabling you to interface directly with PreSonus NSB stage boxes, EarMix 16M personal monitor mixers, and SW5E AVB switches.

Pristine XMAX preamps for sound reinforcement and recording

Simply put, the 32 Class A XMAX preamps onboard the PreSonus StudioLive 32S sound like they belong in the studio. Their high headroom and low noise floor deliver extremely clean and clear sound you simply wouldn’t expect from a live console. And mic preamp settings are fully recallable, which is a huge time saver when you mix or record the same band or show on a regular basis.

Flex Mixes offer a ton of freedom for any mixing application

It can be frustrating trying to use the same mixer for many different tasks. Thanks to Flex Mixes, that’s not the case with the PreSonus StudioLive 32S. Flex Mixes can be set up as aux mixes, subgroups, or matrix mixes, depending on what your show demands.

Need a ton of different monitor mixes for a large group of musicians? No problem, you can create up to 16 aux sends if you need to. Same with subgroups and matrix mixes — perfect for theater productions and multi-zone venues, respectively. Basically, the PreSonus StudioLive 32S’s Flex Mixes allow you to adapt your mixer to the mixing task at hand, instead of adapting your workflow to the limitations of your mixer.

Advanced processing for EQ, compression, and effects

The PreSonus StudioLive series of consoles has always been known for outstanding effects and processing capabilities, and the StudioLive 32S takes it even further. Its FLEX FX multi-effects processor supplies you with four internal effects buses that are loaded with a combination of reverbs, delays, and other effects that you can route any channel through. On top of that, Fat Channel processing offers vintage EQ and compressor models on every channel. And if you crave even more plug-in processing power, you can bolster your 32S with PreSonus’s Fat Channel Collection (sold separately).

Includes a plethora of useful software

The PreSonus StudioLive 32S is a complete solution. It includes UC Surface mix control software, which enables you to access virtually any aspect of your mix, and with support for up to four screens, you could hardly ask for more comprehensive feedback. Capture live recording software records all 32 channels plus a stereo mix of your choosing via USB, to an SD card, or both for a redundant live recording rig. You also get Studio One Artist — a powerful DAW with smart features aimed at making you a total creative beast. What’s more, the 32S is compatible with the free QMix-UC app, which allows artists to control their own monitor mixes.

Your purchase also includes Studio One Artist and everything you need to start recording via your computer. Plus, to take your recordings to the next level, you get the Studio Magic plug-in suite. This extensive collection of popular plug-ins includes emulations of classic studio gear from legendary manufacturers, adding hundreds of dollars in extra value. Punch up your mix bus with the Brainworx bx_opto compressor, add ambient reverb with Lexicon MPX-i Reverb, fire up transients with SPL's Attacker Plus, and much more. And since these plug-ins are available in AAX, VST, and AU formats, they're compatible with any DAW.

This thing is a beast!

One of the best consoles I've used. Where the rest have fallen short, this console has excelled. Live mix 10 out of 10, Daw 10 out of 10. Sound quality... 20 out of 10.

Awesome mixer and Interface

I waited almost 6 months to write this review because I hope it helps someone else that has my particular passion. First, I want to thank the great Rob Amaral for his help in purchasing this board. As always, he steers toward the right solution! I upgraded to this board from the Tascam Model 24 since I was already using Studio One as my DAW. I thought the preamps would help my blues band get "record" quality recordings that I could put on SoundCloud.
Since we mix as a band, I have been pleasantly surprised by how easily I can get my colleagues up to speed on the interface piece. I must say that I have watched nearly all of Joe Gilder's videos as well as Matt Osgood's from Australia. Matt is right that with all of the features packed into both the board and Studio One, that there is a certain complexity. You will need to read the manual and watch a ton of YouTube videos to make this work even if you are a seasoned pro! In fact, the integration is so tight that I had to purchase a RokBox from PC Audio labs with an I9 processor in Nashville to take full advantage of all the features and sounds.
While I will be continually learning for the rest of the year, I can honestly say that this rig is everything I had hoped and more. The preamps are crystal clear and I set up an AVB network with the Presonus AVB 32.16 to replace my snake to record the band live. I get perfect isolation even recording live drums and guitars at the same time as well as my keyboards. The vocals sound great too and my bandmates are really getting great mixes. I strongly recommend that you review your music computer's specs before you start creating this system. It is very complex and with tons of capabilities no matter what kind of music you want to create.
I am certain now that I made the right decisions and I now have the capability to record radio quality music for many years to come. Again, special thanks to Rob Amaral for helping me to "finish off" my home studio. Special thanks to Joe Gilder as well. Goodluck in your future musical endeavors!

OVERWHELMING PLEASED Make A SMART Investment PRESONUS 32S

I will update this review in a few months. I worked for NBC when the network used KRNV Reno as the Digital HD Ginny Pig before expanding to Vegas, Houston and New York. So I had an advantage on some very complex networking and the flexibility of a 56 Channel Yamaha 02R96VCM. It won the Technical Grammy that same year. THE PRESONUS 32S PUT THE YAMAHA TO SHAME! The Studio One software is INCREDIBLY SUPERIOR and USER FRIENDLY Compared to what the VERY DIFFICULT Yamaha Operations Offers. Not to mention at three times the price! And A Great Big THANK YOU! to JOHNATHAN APPLETON At Sweetwater for making this purchase and my ROLAND FANTOM 8, possible for my monthly budget!!! I will submit a more specific, detailed review, in a year perhaps less.

Worth Every Penny, and More.

I'm just a home studio hobby musician, and this is the second Presonus mixer I've owned. The mixer has more features than I'll ever need or use, but it's a fantastic piece of gear. Its flexibility to be used as a live show mixer, record to internal SD card, or as a DAW controller (especially with Studio One software) offers something for everyone. The internal processors in the Fat channel (gates, compressors, EQ's) are excellent, and you can download additional plugins and install them in the mixer providing even greater choice of mixing. There is a learning curve with some features as with most digital equipment, but there are lots of instructional videos available and the tech support from Sweetwater and Presonus is excellent if you have operational questions. Although a pricey investment, it is worth every penny if you decide to put the money into it.

OMG

I'm in love!
Music background: Live touring band, songwriter, producer

Sweetwater and PreSonus go way back, and that makes a lot of sense. Like Sweetwater, PreSonus is largely staffed by active musicians, songwriters, live sound techs, and engineers, and like Sweetwater, their culture shows up in everything they do. Early on, PreSonus broke ground by offering super-affordable audio interfaces that brought quality recording to home studio engineers everywhere. In the following years, we've been with them as they introduced a powerful, artist-friendly DAW, groundbreaking digital mixers, and more - all products we at Sweetwater use ourselves. One thing that's never changed, even as PreSonus has branched out into new territory, is that they've always done everything possible to provide you with the best value, and we're proud to stand by their products.
