Larger Fulcrum for Increased Control and Range

With their extended reach and familiar grip, Vic Firth American Concept Freestyle drumsticks are giving drummers more ways to personalize their sound. The Freestyle’s 17" length and exaggerated taper offer more than double the fulcrum area (sweet spot) of standard sticks, giving players more room to choke up or pull back for heavier hits and increased dynamic range. Careful matching by weight and pitch ensures that every pair of Vic Firth Freestyles arrives ready for action. If you’re looking for greater versatility from the sticks you love and the name you trust, consider the Vic Firth American Concept Freestyle series from Sweetwater.

My new favorites

After 20+ years using Cool Rods in a small church, my muscle memory was very used to using sticks that were extremely light. After trying all my old standby 5B variants, I just couldn't get a similar feel and my playing felt heavy handed. The 7A versions of the Freestyles give me a similar feel, a huge balance point and great reach for when I really need to get some volume out of them. For me these are perfect for where I am right now.

Freestyle Drumsticks: a Lengthy Endorsement

I discovered Vic Firth Freestyle 7a drumsticks at my local music retailer. I had been on a multi-year search for a model to which I could commit. Though I'll admit that me and my Freestyles are in our honeymoon period, I nevertheless believe we are together for the long haul.

The virtue of Freestyle sticks lies in the length. Freestyle 7as are 17 inches--an inch and a half longer than Firth's standard 7a. The length makes a huge difference for me. The length gives the stick more swing weight, which offers a powerful attack when needed. I can access my toms and cymbals with less effort, less strain. The stick balances along a wider stretch of the shaft, which extends my control of dynamics while performing.

I'm a jazz drummer. The acorn tip of the Freestyle 7a offers a sharply defined tattoo on the ride cymbal, which offers rhythmic clarity for the musicians in my band. I have nothing but superlatives for describing VF Freestyle 7as.
Music background: I lead a band called "No Room For Squares."

Good stick but a bit light

I bought these these to compare to Vater Manhattan 7A. They are not apples to apples with different tips and lengths. Nevertheless, I figure I'd try them
Out as there was a good bundle deal. These are very light sticks. I prefer the weight with the Vater sticks. They do play well and are top notch sticks. Just, really light. I predominantly play jazz, country and blues and do not thrash out at all. In my performing context, they are really durable. Nevertheless, I'll be returning to my Vaters.
