Larger Fulcrum for Increased Control and Range

With their extended reach and familiar grip, Vic Firth American Concept Freestyle drumsticks are giving drummers more ways to personalize their sound. The Freestyle’s 17" length and exaggerated taper offer more than double the fulcrum area (sweet spot) of standard sticks, giving players more room to choke up or pull back for heavier hits and increased dynamic range. Careful matching by weight and pitch ensures that every pair of Vic Firth Freestyles arrives ready for action. If you’re looking for greater versatility from the sticks you love and the name you trust, consider the Vic Firth American Concept Freestyle series from Sweetwater.

Vic Firth American Concept Freestyle 5A Drumsticks Features:

  • Increased length and exaggerated taper
  • Double the fulcrum of traditional sticks
  • More room to choke up or lay back
  • Affords greater power and dynamic range

Great for big band!

I played with SD1 Generals during high school in the late 80's and will continue if I ever end up playing rock. Used them in my Navy days of the 90's. Started playing in a big band jazz group a few years ago and found these a year or two ago and love them! I wanted something not as large for jazz, but with great feel and these have it in spades. When you've played for 30 years plus off and on with the same sticks, it's hard to change. Love these!!

Most underrated sticks

After using Vater, Pro Mark, and other Vic Firth models, these are hands down the most versatile and easy to play sticks out there. They last with heavy hitting, and are comfortable with a wide dynamic range. The longer stick length allows me to remain comfortable working around the kit without reaching even the slightest bit. The longer fulcrum area allows you to choke up for lighter playing and feel, or play towards the bottom of the stick for heavy hitting. These are the only stick I'll use now. Hopefully Vic Firth expands the line with nylon tips, Vic Grip, etc.

The extra length!

I have been using the Vic Firth Freestyle's for a few months now and absolutely love them. I previously used Danny Carey tapered, VF 5A, and Manhattan from Vader, among others, and have always desired extra length on the stick. Finally Vic Firth Delivered and these are almost perfect! I will say I cannot give it 5 stars, 4.5, due to the tips being a bit strange? The 5A's have a unique tip that sort of flows from the stick into the tip and top but I can't say I'm a huge fan of the bounce feel on cymbals compared to a normal 5A. They have lasted the same or even longer than normal sticks which is also fantastic.

Almost perfect

PLEASE make these with a nylon tip.
The tips fail early. Otherwise, they are perfect.
I'd like them to last more than 8 practices.
And yes..I know how to play and I am not a hard hitter.
