D'Addario Bass Strings

D'Addario XL Nickel Electric Bass strings are precision wound on their exclusive computer-controlled machines. These strings deliver excellent magnetic output while providing a smooth, comfortable surface that reduces premature fret wear. Sweetwater knows that choosing the perfect string is vital to a musician's sound. Each XL Nickel Electric Bass string plays with clear fundamentals and unparalleled consistency. The nickel-plated steel wrap wire is known for it's excellent intonation and distinctive bright tone, which complements most playing styles.

D'Addario - Making strings for over 300 years

Behind every set of D'Addario strings are over three centuries of fine craftsmanship. The D'Addario family tradition began in the tiny town of Salle, Italy in 1680 where they made assorted instrument strings for over two hundred years before relocating to New York in 1905. As the modern string making industry began to develop, the D'Addario family emerged as innovators by designing the winding machine most string makers still use today. And while their techniques have modernized, the pride that goes into each set of strings dates back to the D'Addario family's earliest roots.

My Favorite Strings!

It's hard to believe these strings go for only $. I've paid more for strings that I hated. I love the feel and the tension of these. They're not too loose and not too stiff. They're consistent and balanced. Each string rings out with the same volume and tone. I actually think hexcores sound better than roundcores. They're less zingy and raspy than most roundcore strings I've tried, but still pack plenty of midrange punch and treble. These are very similar to DR LO-RIDERS, but have a nicer feel to them. I've got them on two of my Precision basses and also my Ibanez SRX500 and they rock!

I've tried others - allways come back to these

I've been a bassist for over 45 years - had many basses, different strings, but these are the best, if you're looking for roundwound that has a combination of even balance with tone along with a smooth feel. That's where these strings really shine, perfection across the spectrum with bass, mid and treble. Yeah, they're designed to be on the brighter side, after all they are roundwounds, but with the nickel coating, you can effortlessly glide with these on your fretboard. They provide a beautiful presence and punch, especially with a 2-10" combo set-up. I just bought a new Schecter Omen Extreme and the first thing I did was to slap a set of these babies on - wow, the punch, clarity and depth is just killer! We're not talking about flatwounds here, but with the option of tweaking the active EQ and amp settings, you can also get that deeper, smoother sound as well, No doubt there are other great strings out there on par with these, the EB Super Slinky's are the closest IMO, but man, there's just something about these that gives it a slight edge. try them, you won't be disappointed... you can't go wrong!

These strings are awesome!

I've been using the 170's for years now on my basses. There's nothing like them. I've tried several other brands over the years like EB Super Slinky's, Roto Swing bass, GHS Boomers, DR High Beams, and mind you, these aren't bad strings at all, but there'a just something about these 170's that separates them from the other. For one thing, I think they're the provide the absolute best balance with the treble, mid and bass frequencies. So smooth, and despite being roundwounds, they are nickel in design, so you can coax some really great tones with them. Oh, and… a great deal. Try these, you won't be disappointed!

My go-to strings

I always use the identical gage each time I buy but sometimes try other brands, yet I keep coming back to D'Addario because of their tone, feel and value. The feel is silky and I don't get string drag when I do slides. The tone is rich and bright. I get a great tone on every stage without a lot of messing around with bass and amp controls. Good longevity as well.
