A Clarett+ for the Solo Recording Artist

Perfect for solo recording artists, Focusrite's Clarett+ 2Pre USB interface gives you two pristine mic/instrument/line preamps, upgraded 192kHz/24-bit digital conversion, and ultra-low round-trip latency, so you can use your DAW plug-ins for monitoring. Focusrite engineered the 10-in, 4-out Clarett+ 2Pre to deliver vanishingly low noise and distortion, and they included their Air effect, which models the sound of the company's acclaimed ISA transformer-based preamps. Make no mistake: the Focusrite Clarett+ 2Pre USB is the easiest way to get great-sounding recordings.

Engineered for flexibility

Boasting 10 inputs and four outputs, Focusrite's Clarett+ 2Pre USB gives you access to a pair of great-sounding mic preamps right on the front panel, along with a high-power headphone output with level control. The XLR combo connectors also handle hot instrument and line inputs, so you can plug in your active bass or guitar, keyboard workstation, or anything else you want to record into your DAW. Go ahead and add reverb to that vocal as you're rehearsing and recording — this USB interface sports impressive round-trip latency that's so low, you could use your DAW plug-ins while monitoring.

Pristine mic pres with extra Air

Designed specifically for the Clarett+ range, the mic preamps in the Focusrite Clarett+ 2Pre deliver gobs of gain yet extremely low noise and distortion. They also include Focusrite's Air circuit that engages an analog model of the company's classic transformer-based ISA mic pre. You'll love the sound of these preamps: sweet, open, and very clean.

Accurate digital conversion

Sweetwater engineers know that conversion is key to superior digital audio, and every Clarett+ features the latest in Focusrite's class-leading 24-bit/192kHz conversion. Offering an expanded dynamic range and higher signal-to-noise ratio than previous models, the Clarett+ is the cleanest way to get sound in and out of your DAW.

Focusrite Control software

Your Focusrite Clarett+ 2Pre USB comes with Focusrite Control, a software mixer that makes short work out of configuring your monitoring and routing setups from Mac, PC, iPad, or iPhone. Simple and intuitive to use, Focusrite Control offers an easy-to-grasp traditional mixer workflow and gives you immediate access to internal hardware functions.

Expand whenever you need to

For maximum flexibility, Focusrite equipped every Clarett+ interface with an ADAT input you can use to bring in eight additional digital mic preamp channels. This is a perfect way to expand your channel count: for instance, recording drums via a digital 8-channel mic pre such as the Focusrite OctoPre MkII.

Plugged in and ready to rock

Each channel of this Clarett+ interface is equipped with a dedicated insert that lets you keep your favorite rack equipment plugged in and ready to track through. This flexible insert setup lets you add analog gear to your signal chains as needed, but all Clarett+ interfaces also include the Hitmaker Expansion, a studio-grade software bundle that includes powerful mixing plug-ins and virtual instruments. Plus, you get a 3-month subscription to Avid Pro Tools Artist, access to Abelton Live Lite, and a free 3-month Splice Sounds subscription.

Focusrite Clarett+ 2Pte USB-C - Excellent product

I have been using this audio interface in my home studio to record my first DAW song. The pots and slots on this hardware are excellent. Both software and hardware controls are top quality. Signal to noise ratio is excellent! Inputs and output audio provide quality sound.

Crisp, Clear and Great for Voice Artists!

I started my voice over career using a Focusrite Solo. The Solo wasn't bad, but it lacked the superb clarity I was looking for. I'm also a guitarist so I like to think I know better quality when I hear it. This is studio grade quality from what I hear. Fantastic! You really can hear more nuances with the Clarett vs the Solo.

This Clarett blows the Solo away! Specifically, it has a broader dynamic range, which means I can record better quality (less noise) turning the mic volume down on the Clarett and then boosting the volume post production. For me, that's a trick I learned to help remove some of the background noise when I perform voice overs into my DAW. With the Solo, I could only boost the volume post production so much until it started to peak/distort.

I know there are more expensive preamps out there but I say you can't go wrong with this for the price. The build feels very heavy in an all metal housing. Lots of outputs too. When I build my home studio, I will plug some monitors into it. The headphone amp sounds way better than the Solo. It's much louder but more important, much more clearer.

For reference, I'm using an AKG C214 mic (low cut switch and attenuation switch turned off) with a Mogami gold cable, input into a MacBook Air. The DAW you use really shouldn't matter. I try to control as much as I can pre production so that post production is a breeze. If I buy a more expensive mic from Sweetwater, I will still stick with the Clarett due to its pristine clarity.

Shout out to Sweetwater's very own Nick Rice who has been my go to sales rep., a very trusted solutions advisor who I've been with for a few years.

Great Sound, simple to set up and use.

I work on Logic. I'm an amateur, but I appreciate good sound. I've previously used Apogee products, but their firmware wasn't up to date with new Apple M processors. I tried the Focusrite Scarlett prior to getting the Clarett.

The Clarett is superior. First, it's extremely simple and intuitive to set up and use. It takes minutes to register the machine, plug it in and go. The Clarett is vastly superior to the Scarlett. For what it is (entry-level audio interface) the Scarlett is a bargain, but the sound quality doesn't compare to the Clarett. Apogee has good sound quality, but the firmware is less reliably updated.

The pre-Amps are very clear.

Recording audio on mics is simple, as is using 48v phantom power. No noise issues.

Reassuring Build Quality, Initial Use Positive

Hey, I'm the first reviewer!

I have been waiting for these to be in stock for a while. It's got a lot of uses in the home studio, but initially I had a specific use case in mind for this. I wanted to use it to stream the output of a live sound mixer into an iPhone, for doing live music/voiceover streams on social media. I had previously experimented with a lower-end Focusrite interface, the iTrack Solo, for the same purpose, but it wouldn't quite do what I wanted. The Solo comes with a lightning cable and uses a USB connection just for power, but it won't power a connected phone, or at least I could not figure out cabling options to do it. It also has inputs that are special-purpose, one for an XLR microphone and one for a Hi-Z instrument, which was not what I wanted to stream a stereo mix. So I decided to try a more general-purpose interface. I did not want to power it with my phone, so it needed to have a separate power input. This thing was just about the only suitable interface I could find that is a "class compliant" USB interface and reputed to work well with an iPhone.

I'm using this with an Apple-manufactured "Apple Lightning to USB 3.0 Type-A Camera Adapter" which plugs into my phone and has a USB A and lightning port so that it is possible to plug a USB device and a charger both into the phone. I'm using a USB A to USB C cable, and an Apple 20W USB C charger. The USB A to C cable that Focusrite supplied in the box is very short, so you will probably want a longer one, and a longer USB C to lightning cable as well. The two-cable setup is a bit awkward but it allows me to put the phone on a tripod or microphone stand mount, and will power the phone and even charge it up while streaming to Twitch or Zoom.

The Clarett interface provides a nice unpacking experience. It is much heavier than the mostly-plastic iTrack Solo, with a solid feel. I just set it up, plugged in two TRS cables into the combo inputs, plugged in the power adapter, and plugged in the USB C cable to connect it to my phone. Everything worked instantly. The phone recognizes it and the Marco Polo, Twitch and Zoom apps will handle audio from the inputs with no special configuration. I also verified that I could record using GarageBand on my phone, so that's also an option.

You will want to configure the Zoom app to use "Original audio" for better encoding quality. You can also monitor on the headphone output. The inputs monitoring works nicely and the inputs seem very crisp and able to handle high signal levels with no audible clipping. I have not really given the mic preamps or other inputs and outputs a workout yet, so consider this review to be preliminary, but so far this thing is doing exactly what I bought it for very well. There are some nice features to help keep the user informed when something goes wrong - for example, if you have it plugged into your phone, but the power supply is not connected or it's not supplying power, the interface will flash lights to warn you that it can't work in this state. That's much better than just silently not working if you've accidentally left a power strip off or a plug loose.

Overall I'm very happy with it so far. I don't really love USB C: it's a mess of conflicting requirements for power, and devices that use only USB C ports for power are a bit problematic in my view, and can present a real hazard of cable compatibility. But in this case Focusrite made the good decision to use separate power, which opens up more options for devices you can connect to it. I would like to see more manufacturers take this approach!
