Great Except for Smaller Diameter Arms BUT Good News Too

My studio requirements demanded a counterweight device as I didn't want to sandbag or otherwise rig a weight to do so. First: The quality and weight here is excellent. It does what it is supposed to do. The Bad News: The reviews about it not fitting smaller diameter arms are true and it's a pain. The cardboard insert hack isn't really a reliable option as the cardboard, no matter how thick wears through and the weight falls off. Be very aware of this if there are expensive foot pedals or equipment below....this thing is a heavy drop! The Good News: This fits perfectly and very securely on the ENDS of both the On-Stage Stands MS7701B, the On-Stage MSA7500CB or the On-Stage MSA8020 arms. If you have either of those or order them you are good to go with a nice secure fit. Another alternative is a Brand called Manfrotto which is made for the smaller diameter arms that work beautifully, mostly sold for use on photography stands.(I have 3 of them now) They come in 3 lb and 10 lb sizes. You can Google to find them easily. As big as On Stage Company is and all they manufacture, making an adapting sleeve for these should be an easy add on at not much cost. Other than the diameter problem, it works well, tightens well, and keeps those heavy mics and accessories standing upright and balanced as they should.

just what I needed ...

I am using these to add weight and stability to my K&M extra tall microphone stands. I have C414s/C214s up about 9-10 feet on stage during a live band/choir/orchestra concert, and with this weight attached just above the base of the stand, it really adds significant security and safety. Other than someone aggressively TRYING to topple this setup, I don't think it's crashing down.

I'd give the threads of the tightning screw threads a shot of silicon lube or lithium grease.

Line the counterweight's interior cutout with a layer of self-adheive moleskin or felt. Some sort of rubber material would probably be even better.

The slight oversize is actually a wonderful feature because the moleskin/felt/rubber takes up the slack, helps damp the system, keeps the counter weight and stand from clanking and scratching metal on metal and adds friction for a more secure attachment. Don't cut out a hole for the tightning screw, just let it push against the added lining in the counterweight, gripping much better than just the nylon head of the screw.
.
Very happy with this setup. I've used 25 pound sandbags in the past, and were ugly and an overkill.

Perfect solution!

Mic Stand Weight

Does exactly what it needs to do.

Not just for sound...

Interestingly I am using these small weights to balance an astronomical equatorial mount for small astrophotography rigs. The predominant design of the mounts is the counterweight are closed, no standard width of the bar and holes in the counterweight. These weights open with the compression screw are easily adapted to these requirements and systems.

Perfect!!!

As a drummer, getting a vocal mic in front of your face is a challenge. After adding a gooseneck extension to my mic stand, it became very top heavy. Adding this 6 lbs. weight to the leg of the stand that is in line with and directly behind the boom arm completely solved the problem! Huge thanks to my SweetWater Sales Engineer Justin Kessler for suggesting this product!
