Deep and Full Vintage Flatwound Tone from La Bella

The 760F-MUS Stainless Steel Flat Wound Bass Strings from La Bella are made specifically for the Fender Mustang through-body bass or any through-body, 30"-scale bass. Made from hand-polished stainless steel, these flatwound bass strings deliver a profoundly deep and vibrant tone with all the sustain you could ask for, and they retain their tone well after standard flatwounds have gone dead.

Note: Not compatible with Mustang Basses with top-loading bridges.

Centuries of expertise in each set of La Bella strings

La Bella strings are the top choice for musicians ranging from world-famous artists such as Willie Nelson, Bryan Adams, and Ron Carter to everyday players like many of us here at Sweetwater. Their heritage reaches back to the Mari family of Salle, Italy, in the seventeenth century, and they became famous throughout Europe, even supplying violin strings to Amati and Stradivari. In the early twentieth century, brothers Emilio and Olinto Mari moved the string operation to New York, founding the modern La Bella company. Today, La Bella strings are considered among the finest in the world, and we think you'll agree when you hear what they can do for your favorite instrument.

La Bella 760F-MUS Flatwound Deep Talkin' Bass Strings Features:

  • Light-gauge (.043–.104) flatwound 4-string bass strings
  • Hand-polished flat windings deliver professional-quality smooth action
  • Stainless steel construction offers deep lows, complex harmonics, and ample sustain
  • Ships in Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) to prevent tarnishing and aging

La Bella short scale Bass strings for '60s Vox Bass

Long ago, in a galaxy far away, I bought a Vox Hollow Body Bass, used, for small money because I liked its looks.
I played it for a while, but never bonded with it. My heart stayed with my trusty Fender Jazz.
So I gave it to my daughter when she wanted to learn bass. And she still had it when I went to visit this summer
just before the fires broke out. I don't think she ever changed the strings... We're talking decades...
>So I offered to take it home and give it some TLC. The first thing I did was talk to Alan at Sweetwater and order
a set of the same LaBella Deep Talkin' strings that my music partner uses on her Hofner. I like the sound she gets.
And after a LOT of cleaning and setup work, I installed these flat wound strings on the Vox.
>They sound great. Totally different than a Fender, so it justifies. having two basses. Not that we need justification.
But the La Bella strings have a lot of subtlety to the tones, it's not just a thunder thud. Now that I can play this old
war horse through a modern amp, it has a lot more dimension and usefulness than it ever did.
Music background: Forty years on the road, with Mustards Retreat playing mostly folk venues.

Awesome strings.

I have a Fender Mustang Vintera 60's bass. I only use flatwounds on all of my basses and these are a perfect fit and the sound is crisp and clear. Keep in mind if you are buying these make sure your Mustang bass has the string through the body style. They will not fit the Fender Player series.
Great strings. But them if you like a nice tone with flatwounds.
Music background: 45 years of assorted instruments. Started with piano, then to alto sax next I got very interested in guitar but never got too serious about it.

Tight, punchy tone for Serek Sacramento

Purchased a brand new Serek Sacramento chambered short-scale bass with a through-body bridge and was offered a free set-up and set of strings from the dealer. I normally use D'Addario chromes for flats and asked for these, but they were a LaBella dealer and suggested I try one of their flat sets. Perusing their catalog, I noticed that most of the flatwound offerings were not designed for through-body bridges. Then digging a little deeper, I found these strings.

The bass arrived in perfect playing condition right out of the box and these flatwounds sounded and felt better than any others i have tried over 15 years of playing. I'm sure a lot of it had to do with the bass itself, the pickups, the Mesa Boogie TT-800 rig and more, but the strings really brought out some great character in the bass and my playing. With or without a pick, there is clarity, but with great depth and if you dig in they respond in kind.

Normally, you hear and feel a change within a few days of breaking new strings in, but after a couple weeks so far, they still feel and sound amazing. If I still owned my Fender JMJ Mustang bass, these would have taken it to another level.

LaBella have quite a lot of string options to choose from, and it's important to read the fine print, especially if you own a bass that has a through-body bridge design. Many of their strings are not designed to fit this style bridge, and as a result, you'll most likely read reviews of people who bought a different set only to have one or more break soon after changing them.

I can highly recommend these strings, with one minor complaint: One of the reasons I have been purchasing D'Addario strings for years, is that they are a very eco-conscious company, from manufacture to recycling. They take steps to reduce waste and offer a recycling program, which allows you to return used strings for points towards either new strings or swag. The only reason I took a half star away on the LaBella's is that I wish they would follow D'Addario's lead in that department, otherwise, this is a great product.

Excellent thru-body short scale flatwounds!

While these strings were designed for the American Fender Mustang (thru-body only!), they fit perfectly on my new Schecter Banshee short scale bass. The Schecter bridge supports top-load stringing in addition to thru-body, so I could have used the standard 760FS-S set (45-105, medium tension) that I have on 2 other basses, but I wanted to try playing thru-body strings. The 760F-MUS set is a slightly lighter gage (43-104), but noticeably less tension than the 760FS-S set. Should be great for bending and vibratos! Going to have to learn how to do both!

The only reason for 4.5 stars instead of 5 is the red silk. I would have preferred black.
Music background: Piano, Clarinet, Bass Guitar (60s), Army and college (70s), career (80s-00s), Bass Guitar and Keys (current). Prefer blues, reggae and funk styles.
