Classic Vibro Champ Tone with Beefier Low End

Back by popular demand, the Fender '68 Custom Vibro Champ Reverb tube combo amp brings vintage Fender tone to a new generation of players. Instead of simply reissuing the classic Vibro Champ, the '68 Custom Vibro Champ Reverb has been modified to make it even better for rehearsal, recording, and even small-stage gigs. Instead of an 8-inch speaker, this combo is loaded with a 10-inch Celestion Ten 30 speaker for beefier tone. And in addition to vibrato, this combo is packed with a high-quality digital hall reverb for bathing your tone in just the right amount of ambience. With all this packed into a quality birch plywood cabinet, the Fender '68 Custom Vibro Champ Reverb is ready to be your lifelong musical companion.

Classic Silverface amp tone

Sparkle, clarity, and brilliance — late '60s Fender amplifiers are often described in such terms, and the Fender '68 Custom Vibro Champ Reverb tube combo delivers that iconic quality in a compact combo. With dual 12AX7 preamp tubes and a 6V6 in the power section driving a 10-inch Celestion Ten 30 speaker, you've got the perfect for punchy tube tone that responds to every nuance of your playing. If you've been looking for a compact tube combo for recording at home, or even for smaller gigs, Sweetwater highly recommends the Fender '68 Custom Vibro Champ Reverb.

Fender '68 Custom Vibro Champ Reverb Tube Combo Amplifier Features:

  • 5-watt, 1 x 10-inch tube combo amplifier based on late-'60s Fender Silverface amps
  • Celestion Ten 30 speaker delivers fat, vibrant Fender tone
  • Onboard vibrato and hall reverb
  • Ideal for recording and smaller gigs
  • Input 2 operates at -6dB for accommodating high-output pickups

Extremely solid.

Don't listen to the Boomer Purists in these reviews. The "digital reverb" people love to hate on (because it's not authentic or some BS?) is outstanding and very lush. You can go from subtle to lush, deep ambient sounds on the reverb with minimal movement on the dial. The range of adjustment is vast.

The speaker sounds good, if you watch Youtube reviews/demos where people swap the speakers out in this thing, there is a very minimal difference and what difference there actually is, is completely subjective. Some speakers will just add more mids or more treble but that is all irrelevant considering that the amp has a very good EQ section on it to begin with, and you can adjust accordingly.

The headroom is perfect for bedroom/living room practice, you aren't going to be able to perform a gig with these amp, at least not with the sound still clean - you'll have to drive the amp into crunch territory to get the volume needed for that.

The vibrato section is outstanding as well, I have messed around with it some and it sounds heavenly.

Cons?

- Doesn't come with the foot pedal for some ungodly reason.

- Needs to be mic'd up in order to play it with any band, period

The amp I should have bought years ago

Ever since these amps came out I wanted one. I played one in a local shop a year and a half ago and just new it was the amp for me checking all the boxes:

✅ Fender amp
✅ Tube amp
✅ Tremolo
✅ Reverb
✅ Not too loud so 5w max

I was looking for a clean amp that could cover all my influences (Rockabilly, Garage Rock, Surf, Country, 50s Rock n Roll, and Blues.) It was important the amp sounded great clean but had the potential to have some swagger and oomph. It was even more important that the amp wasn't too loud as I am a solo home player.

I am happy to report that at volume 4 this amp is as loud as a heavy handed acoustic player. At 10 I feel like a rockstar without the neighbors calling the cops.

At first I was hesitant due to Hall Reverb, I just had to have Spring cause Spring is King. Well I was wrong. Turn up the Reverb to 8-10 and you are instantly transported to a ,1950s high school dance.

Takes pedals with no added noise.Since this has verb and trem the only FX I need is slapback delay.

Due to having low output pickups (GFS Surf 90s which are humbuckers sized Dynasonics,) I have to turn it up to 9 or 10 the get some nice overdrive saturation. With my Gretsch Hollowbody I can dime the volume, turn Treble and Bass all the way down, set the guitar Tone knob to 50% and instant Link Wray Rumble using Input 2.

I really feel this is a Princeton JR amp and the perfect home amp. My only regret was waiting so long to order one. I scored a deal by buying a Demo model. Thank you Noah B for being my rep and getting a the amp I needed into my hands.

Awesome small tube amp for home use

I was looking for my first tube amp, and after much deliberation and consultation with my Sweetwater rep (thanks, Jerrod!!) I finally decided to go with this Fender '68 Custom Vibro Champ Reverb-Amp. I couldn't be happier! I was looking for something small, easy enough to carry/transport on my own if necessary, not too loud (but also not too quiet!), and with a focus on clean tones. I also wanted something simple and easy to use; I honestly didn't want all of the extra options that a lot of amps now offer (for example, all of the modeling options out there) - it's just too much, and the simple, pared-down interface of the Vibro Champ is exactly what I was looking for.

I was upgrading from a Fender Mustang modeling amp, and the difference in sound and tone is like night and day. This amp has made playing an absolute pleasure, and it was 100% worth the money to me. I had been debating between this or maybe a Princeton, not sure if this would be enough; for me, living in a small one-bedroom space, it's plenty of volume. I typically keep the volume between 4 and 6. Digital reverb sounds excellent to me. So far I've kept it all stock and don't see any reason to change it. If you're looking for a small, quality tube amp, I would recommend giving this one a try!

So much fun!!!

This little amp can really get sparkly Fender tones all the way to great bluesy dirt. At 5 watts it's still pretty loud for home use but it's great for studio work too.

The new VibroChamp Reverb is awesome

I have come full circle... Started with a silverface Champ in the 1970's. The new amps are great... Once you get rid of the speaker... I splurged on the power tube for mine and got a Bendix 5992. Found a great sounding R & A alnico speaker that made this amp worthy of having IR's made (wish I had, the speaker died and the hunt is on).

Speaker or not, this is an inspiring amp to play. It is an instrument itself... single ended, cathode biased amps do that.

I play a Esquire style partscaster, and the tone are versatile. I usually turn the volume, treble and bass to 10 and control it with my pick... Not too loud unless you dig in.

This amp is notloud enough to hang with a band, IMHO. But, a restaurant/coffee shop gig is doable.

The reverb is pretty good, a Flint is probably better. The Trem is awesome, you can really use it.

I wish Fender would have had an option for a nice JBL, it would be worth the upcharge... The stock speaker blows.

I tried a G10 Gold and it was a big improvement over the stock spesker. The R&A is mind blowing. I also tried a Mojo OT with a 8 ohm tap in it so I could use the Gold safely, the stock OT sounded much better.
