Carol Kaye sound

Recently switched my vintage Fender Jazz bass from roundwound strings to Fender flatwounds and love the tone without rolling off. I run the bass wide open and sometimes even play with a pick to get that 60s sound.
Still have Rotosound Swing 66 on the Rickenbacker.

Best Flats I've Tried

When I got my first fretless (Fender Player Series Jazz Bass, I bought a few different brands of flats to try out on them. These strings, at least to my ears, sounded better than the other two sets I tried. They also seemed to have good response up and down the fingerboard. On the other two there were certain notes that seemed a little muted with not as much sustain. Not so with these strings. I like them a lot, and the price is right. I'd recommend them.

Flatwound Bargain

I play flatwounds exclusively, and have tried many. These have been on my #1 gigging bass for the past year. They stand out for their price, feel, sound and durability.

These are excellent strings. They don't have the fat mids of some other flats, like La Bella DTBs, instead, they have more highs and a more relaxed feel. The low E has a slightly lower tension than most comparable sets of strings. I like that because I feel that it sounds and intonates better, but I can see some people wanting a more uniform feel.

These darken with age, but not that fast. Mine are about a year old, and still have some nice high end. If you want dark, back off the tone. They're very versatile strings. If you're familiar with D'Addario Chromes, these aren't identical, but they sound and feel similar. For whatever reason, I think that the Fenders sound and feel just a touch more supple than the equivalent Chromes.

Great strings.

A surprisingly good set

Nice slightly bright tone. Easy on the fingers Got a set when they were on sale a month ago and was impressed. Will buy again.

Good strings

Had Labella flats on my jazz bass. Sounded good but i like these better. Easier to play, good tone.. 50-100 gauge. Good price.
